His Life

Mr. Larry J. Jones, the son of the late Bishop Ocie Lee Hicks and Annie Ruth Jones, was born November 2, 1953 in Troup County, GA. He departed this life on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at EAMC-Lanier.

Larry accepted Christ at an early age and united with Bethlehem Baptist Church. In late years he attended the New Harmony C.M.E. Church.

“Cowboy”, as he was known by many, was a product of the West Point City School System and was a member of the 1972 graduating class of Harrison High School.

Larry served his country faithfully, by serving in the U.S. Army for four years. During his active years in the military, he served a tour of duty in Germany. He was employed with the Corps of Engineers for several years.

Larry’s hobbies were walking, joking and dancing. He enjoyed watching country and western movies. He was funny, loveable and a caring person. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jimmy Rogers, William H. Jones and Larry Hicks, and a special friend, Twana L. Harrison.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Sandra K. Jones, Lanett, AL; four daughters, Larica Jones, Lanett, AL; Tandra Jones, LaGrange, GA; Gresham Brooks, West Point, GA and Tynisha Turner, Stockbridge, GA; four sons, Damian Jones, Darrell Harrison, West Point, GA; Fredrick Malone, Lanett, AL; Montorius Harrison, Valley, AL; seven sisters, Bobbie J. Jones, Minnie J.(Greg) Trice, West Point, GA; Joanne (Randy) Jackson, LaGrange, GA; Dr. Bertha Hodge, Cusseta, AL; Elnora (Kenneth) Copeland, Lanett, AL; Geraldine (Carl) Lee, Pine Mountain, GA; Paula (Donald) Little, Talladega, AL; four brothers, James Morris Jones, Willie C. “Jack” King, West Point, GA; Willie B. (Mary Charles) Hicks, Paul (NaTasha) Hicks, Valley, AL,19 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 aunts, Adell Williams, Ophelia Jones, West Point, GA, six sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
