How honored I am to have had Lillian in my life. I will remember her sweet smile, hilarious sense of humor, and her gentle soul. She loved her family dearly and was such a proud mother and grandmother. My thoughts are with Al and the entire Dubinsky family.

Loving You - June 1, 2022

Loving you wasn't easy, but loving you became one of my best talents.
When problems arose, I had the basic tools of how to fix them.
If I didn't know how to fix the problem, I at least somehow figured out why the first step would be.

Loving you wasn't easy for anyone.
Constantly changing your mind, the never ending sarcasm, and telling people what you really thought, even when they looked at you sideways.
Not every human being could handle what came out of your mouth.

Loving you had its rewards.
Loving you made me one of your favorite people to be with by
being the one who visited and saw you the most, bringing you
what you brought me when I wasn't feeling well, and that made me
feel that much more respected by you.
Loving you was a hell of a lot of work.

The Next you - In Honor of Lillian Dubinsky
Written on February 21, 2020

For the longest time, I didn't want anyone to take your place.
I didn't think anyone should be the next you.
They shouldn't have that honor unless they absolutely know who's large egotistical shoes they're getting into.

I would like nothing more than to know if you would want someone else to take the same name that we all identified you by.
Maybe you would be humored by seeing if someone can even take on the challenge of being the next you.
You might even get a laugh if it was too much for them to take it on.
So......what would you say or think if that challenge was taken on?
Would you still want someone to be the next you?

A Lady Like You - In honor of Lillian Dubinsky
Written on February 7, 2017

She offered to share a table at Starbucks. She said, "I'm running and errand and decided to treat myself." She puts her bag down and points to the other chair next to her.

Her size is about the same as you, and she has the same tone on voice as you.
When she puts her magazine down, she flips to the crossword puzzle.
She whipped out her glasses and they are the same as yours.

I don't know what I got myself into but she's a lady like you.

She also appears to do the crossword puzzle in pen. Not device in sight to Google the answers or a partner to turn to for help.

It looks like her standards are like yours, because she's a lady like you!

Lillian as a sister

June 4, 2013

When I was young I always would go and take Lillian’s clothes when she left for work.  One night I had a date, so I went to Lil’s room and took a new dress that had not yet been worn.  I went to the party and someone took a picture of me in it.  She saw the photo and was so upset to think I used the dress before she did.

Also she had a black dress that I loved.  Every chance I had, I took the dress to wear. So one day she took me to a store and bought me a black dress of my own.

Any time I had to have a nice dress for an occasion she would sent me one by UPS and I would send it back after the event.  One time I had a wedding in August and I called Lil and she did not have anything for me so she bought me a dress.

She always helped out when one in the family had money problems.   I was very lucky to have a wonderful sister.

Bridge, blueberries, and more

June 3, 2013

Lillian put herself in charge of keeping us well socialized in Michigan, when we bought a place there for summers.  She involved me in her bridge groups, provided recipes for pickles, jams, and borscht.  We even learned about squash blossoms at Tosi's. We loved her friendship.  She was a terrific force, and the energy she generated amazed us.  We are so glad we had the chance to see her in Chicago with her family or their recent trip.

We love and miss her.

When Lillian was in the hospital, she got tired of visitors asking how she was doing. So she declared the following rule:

When you come to visit me, you can't ask how I'm feeling. Instead, just say "Lillian, you look marvelous".

We did what she said, of course...
