The End

June 24, 2013

Mom was living up at Salisbury Beach with Gene Morin. She had not told anyone but, she had been have periods of passing out from shortness of breath. On May 8th, I went up to visit her and found her in a chair almost dead. She said that she had tried to drive herself to work in Beverly but, started to pass out on the way, so she turned around and went home and she was just sitting there! I called an ambulance only to have the operator on the phone tell me that I sounded too young to be making the call; I was 20 with two kids at my side! So they rushed her to the health center that was in Peabody where the Lahey Clinic is now and from there they rushed her to Beverly Hospital. I went up and saw her once I got the kids settled and I sat with her for a few hours. Finally, she told me to go home and rest as Justin was due for his Clef Lip surgery the next day. Before I left, she must have known that she was not going to make it because, she told me to always remember that I had to let my father hurt me to love and she made me promise that I would. The next morning I shot out of bed at 4 am with this feeling that something was wrong so I checked on the babies and they were fine. I got ready to head to the hospital to get Justin ready for his preop. While waiting in the Surgicenter, Gene came in and told me that she had passed away. My first reaction was "No, not her, my father has to die first; he is older!"
Needless to say I was devasted! Kelly Conners came and took the kids from me and my father came and dealt with me. That was the first time I had ever seen him cry.
The next days were a nightmare! I had to go to the hospital to claim her body since I was her only living relative. Then I had to make all of the decisions that my father didnt want to make like what her name should be on the tombstone, etc.
I remember that day as if it were yesterday and it was 24 years ago.
