ForeverMissed

Our beloved mother, Marilyn Roxana Farr passed away on March 1, 2024 after a long battle with chronic pain. She was well loved and will be missed greatly. She was born in Anderson Indiana to Joseph and Bernice (Marsh) Welsh. Not long after her birth, they moved to San Fernando Valley California where she spent all of her primary school years. She shared fond memories of California summers, olive and fruit trees and her mom’s homemade bread. For high school she attended Auburn Adventist Academy and Columbia Adventist Academy where she met the love of her life, Jack William Farr (1933-2017). They married in August of 1952 and by May of 1953 they started their family. They had four children, Michael William Farr, Stephen Joe Farr, Lisa Faye Farr and Lori Renee Farr. Michael (1953-2020) and Stephen (1954-2017) preceded her in death.

Marilyn began her career in Portland Oregon as a cytotechnologist, reading cancer slides for a local lab. But she didn’t stay there long and eventually she became a chef and worked at many places sharing her amazing food. Her and Jack ran two Vegan Restaurants for several years. Marilyn also cooked for Portland Adventist Hospital, Keene College and in her later years she ran a hot lunch program for Hoodview Junior Academy. Mom loved to feed people; it was one of her greatest joys. If you were well fed, she was happy.

She was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. In her later years one of her favorite things to do was to see pictures of all her grandkids and to hear stories of how they were doing. Marilyn (Nana) and Jack (Papaw) were very giving people. They were always willing to help out whenever they could. Nana had a very giving heart. She loved to spoil you and love on you.

Her belief is she will be resurrected one day when Jesus comes again. She knows her body will be made new and she will not have to suffer any more. Her heart’s desire is to see all her kids and grandkids there. She also can’t wait to reunite with Papaw. Soon and very soon she will see the King. See you there Nama. We love you!

One of my mom’s love languages was gift giving. She loved to give gifts to people. She loved to wrap it up and make it look pretty. Her smile would just beam in giving it to you. This last year of her life, we couldn’t really take her out anymore to shop. It was hard on her body. We showed her how to shop online a bit and she chose some Christmas presents that way. But it was hard for her to even do that. But the one thing she did have that she could give was cookies and bananas from her food tray. And every day she received one of those items she saved it for Blue and I. At first I told her we didn’t need bananas and cookies, but then I realized it wasn’t really that. Every saved banana or cookie was an “I’m thinking of you”. This morning I woke up thinking about it because when we packed up her room there was one last banana laying on the shelf. One last “I’m thinking of you.” Thank you mom for all the little gifts over the years that showed us your love. Thank you for this one last banana that told me you loved me and you were thinking of me. Even in all you were suffering you were thinking of those you loved. I love you mom.
