Dearest Martita
I am so sorry you have gone. Not only you were at our wedding and we were at yours, but we shared every important event and celebration in our lives be it sad or joyous.
You also shared with me the friendship of your best friend the delightful Miriam, with whom we had wonderful times together, until her untimely passing.
We were overjoyed when you married Nano, who was a lovely gentleman in every way, with a sense of humour that matched yours. I still remember many of his jokes. The four of us had many most enjoyable times together.
I will miss you terribly. Although due to the pandemic, we were reduced to telephone conversations. Only a few days ago on your birthday we were making plans for the end of
the lock down.
You will be kept alive in our hearts and memories until we meet again.

The Council of the Anglo-Bolivian Society in the UK would like to pay tribute to Marta Bosacoma, long-standing first secretary of the Bolivian Embassy in London. Marta played an active role in the founding of our Society in May 1992 by Major General Gary Prado, then Bolivian Ambassador to the Court of St James's. She was a Council member from 1992 to 1995, and thereafter remained a member of the Society.

In May 2020 Marta made a significant contribution to the Society’s GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for the Covid-19 Front Line Bolivia Rapid Aid appeal that we set up in conjunction with the newly-formed British Bolivian Community, promising her continuing support for our work to assist with the purchase and donation of personal protective equipment to medical staff and support workers in Bolivia.

Council would like to offer sincere condolences to Marta’s family and her many friends.

We were proud to count Marta and Hernando among our close friends within the Cotos community in Spain. Marta was so supportive of Hernando and was always a genuine charming lady. She truly loved her stays in Spain. Marta was a very gentle lady and we became close friends, meeting again in London. We treasured her friendship and will miss her very much. May she rest in peace.

Beloved Marta....

Not only were you our son's Godmother (James who is now 40 and you were so happy to know his children) but also our best friend.
Your love, beauty, elegance, honesty, charisma and wisdom reflects just some of your virtues throughout your life that we were privileged enough to know and share.

A long time ago we met you in a very special moment of our lives, which made us so happy in every aspect.

Every year we celebrated your birthday from near and far when we were in Bolivia. We will never forget the laughter and fun we had together. Even though this 'horrible' year due to the pandemic we were unable to meet in person but were able to have laughter and tears of happiness when you received your unexpected birthday cake which will live in our memory forever.

We remember the great times we had here with you but also our times together in Barcelona and in Santa Cruz
when you came to visit us with our beloved Nano.

All the wonderful memories we shared together makes it so very difficult to say goodbye.

You will live in our hearts forever

Marta

Marta and I became very good friends during my 30 years working for the Chairman and Chief Executive of De La Rue. I am so very sad to hear that she has moved upwards. Such a lovely gracious lady.

We continued our friendship when I moved to the Foreign Secretary’s office, especially as I went on the Minister’s trip to Bolivia and her old boss, Carlos Morales, met us at the airport.

In latter years we stayed in touch attending her husband’s art exhibitions, Fairs at Kensington Town Hall, and of course recently the Bolivian Amazon Rainforest Appeal.

I shall miss our contacts, albeit recently only by email. I am so sad that I will not be able to attend her memorial service as, virus permitting, I shall be in Scotland that week.

Marta Bosacoma was my aunt. The only sister my dad had. I got to know my aunt Marta when I went to live with her, my grandmother Blanca, and grandaunt Tila in London when I was 14 for 2 years. Although she never had children of her own, she looked at me as her son.

Tia Marta, as I called her, was classy, elegant, smart and charming lady. Everyone that met her was charmed by her wit and demeanor. She was a diplomat working as the first secretary of the Bolivian Embassy basically all her life. She was the glue that kept the embassy going through all the change in ambassadors. Her outstanding work got her to be recognized and decorated by the Order of the Condor de Los Andes.

She was involved in many civic organizations like the Anglo-Bolivian Society among others. When I was teen living in London, I would see Tia Marta get dressed up and get picked up at the embassy by horse and carriage when presenting credentials to her Majesty, the Queen of England. On occasion I would join the reception at the embassy and hob nob with admirals and such wearing military outfits you normally only see at a distance or in movies.

There wasn’t one person that didn’t like her. She had many friends as attested by the calls and emails I have received since her passing.

Tia Marta married when she was 60 to the love of her life, Hernando Velasco, who passed away almost 4 years ago.

I will miss my morning calls with Tia Marta. I pray you are now in good company with those you love that have passed.

With all my love,

Juan Carlos

We met Marta and Hernando about 12yrs ago in Cotos Spain . A lovely charming couple and we became good friends. Marta was a gentle soul , elegant and very caring of her husband she had a great sense of humor.
We loved to listen to her many stories of her life and family . Our daughter lives in the same town as her cousin Monse in Mollet near Barcelona.
Marta had lots of great adventures and loved her job at the embassy in London .
In the later years I used to meet them off the flight from London to Gibraltar and take them to their Spanish home .
We used to take them both out for a drive in the Andalucia countryside which they both loved and stop for a meal . Marta loved going to different restaurants and we enjoyed her company very much .
I also look after her Spanish home . Before she arrived she would ask me to shop and send me an email . It’s such a shame the virus stopped her usual late Spring trip to Spain she was so wanted to come . We will miss Marta very much RIP our dear friend Marta .

A Lady of Substance

September 16, 2020

Words cannot express the grief I feel by the passing of my dear friend Marta.

It has been over 40 years ago  when we were introduced to our dear Marta by my wife’s close cousin Antonieta Arce Crespo married to the Bolivian Ambassador General Waldo Bernal.

Marta and I got on very well almost immediately, as the years passed we celebrated birthdays together. This year due to circumstances we sent her a birthday cake, she phoned us in tears, "those were tears of happiness" she told me.

Memories that will live in our lives forever.

The time we went to the Olympics in Barcelona with Marta and our children, James and Giana, to visit Marta’s family and to attend  her nephew Jordy’s wedding in Castel del Fels,, we all had such a wonderful time together.

I have a great recollection of her riding as a passenger on a motor bike, just once around the block in Castel del Fels, she came back laughing out loud but saying it was exciting, but she said after “I will never ever do that again”.

Often we had the pleasure to accompany Marta to the Royal enclosure at Ascot where we sat and drank Pimm’s and watched the Royals at play. We also accompanied her on many diplomatic functions where we saw her shining in her own element, a true diplomat and a lady of substance.

We will always remember the times she came to visit us in Santa Cruz and also when we met in Tarija where Nano her beloved husband was born and I had the opportunity to play around of golf with one of their friends, unfortunately I lost.

Marta had a super sense of humour, she loved British comedy. We used to share funny moments together, one of her favourite shows was Fawlty Towers, she just loved the characters. She would call me or text me to comment on a show or film she had recently seen, so we could have a laugh together.

Words cannot express the grief I feel by the passing of my dear friend Marta.

Rest in Peace dear sweet friend

70 years friendship

Martha and I met in 1950. We grew up in the same village and worked together in a bank.
We became good friends, and after Martha left to live in London and went to work at the Bolivian Embassy we stayed in contact.

We spent several happy holidays together in our younger days. In the last 18 years I have spent a holiday each year with her at her house in Spain.

Martha was a lovely lady and I have lost a very dear friend.  I will miss her greatly.
