A celebration of life was held
October 7, 2023
at Mary's house
Thank you for all that attended

Mary Louise (Recla) Weaver, age 84, of Roseburg Oregon died September 3, 2023 at her home in Roseburg. Born December 29, 1938 in Ontario Oregon to Louis and Elvera Recla. She lived in Adrian, OR, which was about 25 miles south of Ontario, on a farm homesteaded by her family. She was the youngest of 4 siblings with her brother closest to her in age being 16 years older than her. She tells the story of when she was born it was a cold winter and they wanted to get her baptized before going home. The priest asked her brother to take the holy water and warm it over the furnace. When he came back with an empty cup he explained he had poured it over the furnace. So the furnace and her were baptized on the same day. In 1941(the year her father became a US citizen) she moved to Vale and lived there on a large farm (380 acres). When her dad died in 1945 she visited her sister in Roseburg with her mother and ended up staying with them till 1949 when her sister moved to Vale. Her mother worked for a tailor and passed the sewing skill to Mary. Her mother later worked at the Catholic rectory cooking and cleaning at the parish house for various priests. She lived with her mother in the Catholic rectory for 15 years. She went to Saint Joseph’s School and finished in 1953 and then graduated from Roseburg High School in 1957. She went to work for a dentist, then worked at Chapman’s Drug Store for a few years. It was when she went back to work for another dentist, Dr. Finlay, she met her husband Britt. In 1963 she married Britton (Dede) Weaver in Reno, NV. They had 3 kids Darryl, Charles and Barbara. She worked part time and ran a cooperative play school until her third child was born. She worked as a school aide and for the Roseburg Education Association. She had a small play-school at her home for a while. She also worked at the courthouse in the elections department and has done a lot of volunteer work with the American Cancer Society, PTA, 4-H, church and Credit Union. She used her sewing and craft skills to make and sell handmade items, often doing custom sewing projects for people. She set up and participated in multiple quilting groups and was active till the end finishing another quilt just days before she passed. She traveled with Britt to Italy to visit relatives and see the town where her father Louis was from in the apple orchards of Northern Italy. She and Britt traveled around the United States a lot either in their travel trailer, campervan or by Amtrak. She would often tell the story of being knocked off the tracks by an earthquake while traveling on the train. She is survived by two of three children Darryl and Charles Weaver. Her husband (2019) and daughter Barbara Godsey (2009) preceded her. She has two grandchildren Fiona and Wyatt of Charles and his wife Michelle.

Charles,
We are truly sorry to hear about the passing of your Mom. We know how close you were to her and how special of a bond she shared with you, your brother and sister, as well as with Michelle, Fiona, and Wyatt. While we only met her a handful of times, she treated Stacy and I like her own family. I will always remember receiving an adorably hand-sewn Winnie the Pooh blanket after the birth of one of our boys and feeling so moved by her kind gesture to think of us at that exciting time in our life. We hope that her celebration of life this weekend brings comfort to you and your family. Our thoughts are with you all!

"Mary of Many Talents" could easily be her name! She and Brit were part of my life for many years. From Play School, scouting, and volunteering at Dougco Schools Credit Union , and gathering fruit from her fruit trees we shared many happy times. Heaven is a happier place with Mary's presence. I am sorry that I will not be able to attend her celebration in October.  by Marliene Winfield Swanson

Dear Charles & Darryl,
I was so sad to read of your Mom’s passing and wanted to reach out to you to extend my heartfelt sympathy! Your Mom was one of those very special people who I feel privileged to have worked with on community projects and greatly appreciated her kindness & hard work. She had a mimeograph machine and would run copies of a newsletter for me, very generous with her time! Obviously this was “back in the day” before copiers and electronics

I’m sorry that plans did not work out for your Mom & Dad to relocate near you, Charles, they had really looked forward to it and we had some serious conversations about it before your Dad’s health did not allow the move.

Mary made me a cross stitch with all the real estate offices I had worked at and real estate related symbols that I still have and cherish! She presented it to me after I helped you buy your Tenmile property, Darryl!

I know she loved you both and was so proud of you!

I’m sad that our paths had not crossed in recent years but will always remember Mary with a smile!

Rest in peace and enjoy being reunited with your daughter, Barbara, and husband, Britt,
Mary! I will miss you!

I’m sending this message as I regret that I will be out of town for Mary’s celebration and not able to be there. Sending hugs to you and caring thoughts!

I was Britt Weaver's caregiver. When he passed away I felt so sad to leave Mary alone. As it turned out, I think she missed me too, because she asked me if I could stay and help her 2 or 3 days a week. I accepted and our friendship blossomed from there.

Mary was a very kind woman. She had a big heart and was always helping others. There was no selfishness in her heart. She had a creative mind and was very talented in many areas. One of her many talents was her quilting and sewing abilities. I learned a lot with her. She was always sharing something with me. When we went shopping she would share some of the fruits and vegetables with me, because the bags had too much for her to use. When I left her home, most of the time I didn't leave emptyhanded.

We created many memories together. We went for rides, picnics, and the coast together. She knew the Roseburg area very well, including the history of many of the businesses. She and Britt got to know many of the people who started them. Mary showed me the places where she and her mother lived in the Roseburg area, places she used to work, and many other places. Mary knew a lot of people in town and they all loved her. Mary introduced me to many of her best friends.

I have a lot of stories and memories of Mary, but I need to mention that her kindness toward me and my family was great. My whole family appreciated her love toward us. The summer we had the fires in Glide and Sutherlin were really bad for my husband and I and we needed to evacuate, because of the bad air quality and the closeness of the fire. Mary opened up her home to us to stay until the smoke cleared. She didn't just open her home to us, but she gave us her bedroom. That was so kind of her! We will never forget that.

Another time I remember Mary's kindness was when my oldest daughter got married. Mary did the alterations for her dress. It took many hours of work and dedication. Both our daughters and sons-in-law got to know Mary. They were all impressed with her love and helpfulness.

Mary enjoyed collecting little things for her grandchildren. We went to the Dollar Tree and put as much as we could fit in the boxes that were to be sent to them. Every time I went to visit my family in Guatemala, Mary sewed a lot of crafts and things for the kitchen to give to them. Mary was very giving and generous.

Unfortunately, the last time I saw her was January, 2022. There is a place in my heart for her. Every Christmas Mary told me, "You are the little angel that God sent from Guatemala to us." I will always remember her. Mary was like a mother to me. I never saw her as my boss. She was my friend and I loved her and believe she knew that.

I will miss her.

Charles & Family:
Grandma Mary was a kind and gentle soul. She left me a couple of gifts that I will always remember her for.
-A front door mat that read:
“Grandchildren are always welcome! Parents by appointment only”. I concur with the sentiment.
I still have it on the front porch a little bit worn by wear but otherwise doing its job.
- She sent me a flower that looked like a stick with a bulb on the bottom if it.
Within a few weeks it blossomed into the attached picture without ever having to water it.
I concluded the bulb on the bottom must have been a reservoir of moisture.
Some people have a way about them in turning non- descript things into beautiful works of art.
She was a master with her sewing machine and bolts of fabric that allowed her to illustrate her artistic talent with her completed masterpieces.
Her grandchildren were the recipients of many of her artistic creations.
Her granddaughter Fiona took first place in a Halloween competition in Arizona when she came decked out in a Grandma Mary creation of Dorothy of the Wizard of Oz. Both Fiona
and her little dog Lucy won the event easily.
Suffice it to say that she made her mark in this world with her many talents and desire to share the same with others.
I am certain that she was met at the train station in heaven
by her husband Brett, and her daughter Barbara, welcoming and showing her the ropes in the spirit world.
She will be well taken care of in the meantime.
My condolences go out to the entire family that are left behind. She will be sadly missed by all of the lives she has touched.
On the other hand, Earth’s loss is heaven’s gain…

Mary was such a loving and great lady. I feel very blessed to have known her and spend time with her. Even though I knew her thru her kids, I would go visit her and Brit and always be welcomed with open arms. The world is a better place for her having been here with us.
