Melvin Lynn Simpson, 65, a lifetime resident of Person County passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at his home.
A native of Person County, the widower of Wilma Pennell Simpson and the son of the late Alvin Durant and Gladys Oakley Simpson. He was an Army Veteran, was of the Baptist faith, a former tobacco farmer and a retired construction foreman for Southern Industrial Contractors for 21 years.
Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday, April 5, 2013 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church by Rev. Keith Williams and Rev. Gerald Thomas. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Miller Simpson of the home, a son, Michael Simpson (Rose) of Rougemont two daughters, Tammy S. Williford (John Jr.) of Roxboro, Sandra L. Simpson of Roxboro, a step-daughter, Lynda G. Chambers of Roxboro, two sisters, Kaye Glasscock of Rougemont, Donnie Ann Horton of Timberlake, a brother, Alvin “Butch” Simpson of Rougemont, three grandchildren, Jonathan Williford, Brittany Williford, Sarah Williford, three step-grandchildren, Michael Currin, Chris Currin, Daniel Currin and one step-great-grandchild, Cayden Currin.
Flowers are acceptable or contribution may be made to Durham VA Medical Center, Attention: Volunteer Service (135), 508 Fulton Street, Durham, North Carolina 27705.
Visitation will be held from 7:00 – 8:30 PM Thursday evening, April 4, 2013 at the Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.

Just wanted to leave a note to say how much I enjoyed working with Lynn and how much respect I had for him! He was a giving man and an extremely hard working man!
