Her Life
August 7, 2017

On Friday, August 4, 2017, Elder Angelyn Kate Wright Davis was transferred from the church terrestrial to the church celestial to abide in the presence of God! Her homegoing leaves us in sorrow, but our faith, hope and trust in God remains steadfast and unshaken. Angelyn was born the fourth child of the late Rev. Frank Wright, Sr. and the late Mrs. Octavia Mullins Wright on September 29, 1958.

Having been named for her great-aunt, Kate, as a child, Angelyn was fondly referred to by her family and neighbors on Jackson Hill as Angie Kate. Angie Kate was an outgoing child easily winning the hearts of her parents, grandmother, siblings and extended family.

She was educated in the Lanett City Schools, having begun her public school tenure at the former Lanier High School and graduating from Lanett High School in 1976. Early on, Angelyn’s charming personality and million dollar smile won over her classmates and friends. She was inspirational as a leader both socially and civically among her peers.

After high school graduation, Angelyn enrolled at Southern Union State Community College. She later completed a job training program in commerce and hospitality with the State of Alabama. This training prepared her for a career with the State of Alabama Bureau of Tourism. Here, Angelyn used her God-given charm and outgoing personality as an ambassador for the State of Alabama at the Alabama Welcome Center in Lanett. She welcomed the weary traveler with a warm smile and brief civic lessons about the great State of Alabama.

Born into a family of believing Christians, Angelyn began attending Pilgrim Baptist Church with her family while yet in the cradle. As she grew in her understanding of God and His perfect plan of salvation, Angelyn began a lifelong journey of service. She publicly confessed Jesus as her Savior and was baptized into the fellowship of believers. At Pilgrim, Angelyn embarked upon a lifetime of Christian service by participating in the Red Circle, the Young Women’s Association and Junior Choir. As an adult, she was active in Senior Choir No. 2 and the Matrons Circle.

On December 22, 1997, God gave Angelyn her Boaz, Ivory Davis. To this union one child was born and five children were integrated. Ivory and Angelyn united with New Life Christian Center in Opelika, AL where she served as an Elder until death.

She leaves to cherish precious memories: her devoted husband, Elder Ivory Davis; four daughters, Shalanda Wright, Ivori Danielle Davis, Brittany Green and Alisha (Aaron) Phillips; two sons, Jeremy (Sheena) Davis and Travis (Christiana) Davis; ten grandchildren, Anton “AJ”, Carson, Emori, Ivori, Aubrey, Kylee, Christopher, Tristen, Cameron and Ariane; one sister, Gloria Wright; four brothers, Frank (Shirley) Wright, Gary (Brenda) Wright, David (Shelby) Wright and Reginald Wright; two sisters-in-law, Elsie (Jeffery) Lott and Rosemary (Richard) Cooper; three nieces, Tiffany, Sabrina and Lunden; five nephews, Gabriel (JeQuetta), Frederick “Reco”, Octavius, Talin and Darrell (Brittany); special Spiritual Leaders, Apostle Auzzie and Pastor Cheryl Comer; Members of New Life Christian Center; two special cousins who were like sisters, Janice Burton and Malinda White; and, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
