Tribute to Mrs M.T.F Sojinrin
Mrs. Sojinrin touched my life in a very subtle yet great way. She taught me manners and elegance. I remember how she would call our names from her office whenever we tried to cross the school lawn, till today; I find it difficult to walk across a lawn as I always remember her teachings. She was one of the best things that happened to my life as a young girl. She didn't have to talk to make you want to do right, you just had to watch her walk with her head high and you would want to emulate her virtues. The educational sector in particular has lost one of its best, but I take consolation in the fact that though she is no longer here with us, she left a part of herself, her values, in me and in so many others.
May the beautiful soul of Mrs Sojinrin rest in God's perfect peace. Amen.

I never thought in a million years this day will come, that I Atawodi Ojima as she calls me, will be writing a eulogy, a tribute to Mrs M.T.F Sotjinrin.
I write this with a heavy heart and at the same time with peace in my heart knowing fully well you are resting in the bosom of the lord and for the fact that you left a mark... your mark on this earth before your departure.
Thank you for believing in me
Thank you for making me see the bigger picture at all times
Thank you for the unshakable foundation you laid for me, for my colleagues, for our School.
Thank you for sacrificing your self for us, for me, making sure we all had the best education that could be offered at that point in time
Thank you for making me never to settle for mediocrity, you made me always strive to be the best wherever I found myself.
You were, are and will always be my role model.
I hope I made you proud.
Thank you for everything Ma.
You will be missed

The greatest impact in my life have been by women.
Women who at first saw me better than I saw myself and saw the value I could bring even when I was too young or naive to see them for my self.
One of these women was Mrs M.T.F. Sojinrin.
Tough as nails but one of the kindest women I have ever met.
It was always a pleasure to watch her work and carry out her duties as school head teacher with impeccable grace, class and dedication. It was a greater privilege to learn and spend time with her.
She ensured she got out every shy and low self esteem bone in me and got me to try out tasks I never would have tried.
The best thing about her was her ability to see you for who you are, who you could become and she always proceeded to make you better.
She saw us. What we did, how we did it, how we felt, how we even walked.
I can only hope I create the kind of impact she created in the lives of people I come across in my life here on earth and I am certain she is with God.
Rest on Ma.

My dear Mrs. Sojinrin, when I heard you had left this world, I was so sad. Though I grieve your exit from this world, I am very grateful to God that I reconnected with you after my school days.

You moulded me from the little 11 year old I was when I entered Holy Child College in 2001 to the lady I grew into after graduation. You instilled discipline in me. You showed me what it meant to be a leader. You listened whenever I had any issues. You were always there for us girls. Always. I'm so happy that you were my principal for my entire six years in Holy Child College. I couldn't have asked for a better principal.
I know you are in heaven with our Lord because of the impact you made in all the lives you of the girls that you met. Your passion for the education of the girl child was unparalleled.
The world has lost a rare gem.
Rest in peace ma. You are forever in our hearts.

TRIBUTE TO A HEADTEACHER TURNED MOTHER
I would not use the word late for you because to me you still live on considering the lives you have touched (especially girls) who still live out the virtues imbibed in them through your life well spent. I am a product of the great life you lived and am proud of the girl I used to be and the woman I am becoming. I remembered her words of encouragement to me of how I can always do better even when to me I had done my best. I remembered telling you I wanted to be like you and you laughed very hard and said to me "Ebere, be yourself". That response shook me but today I live in the reality of that response and happily enjoying every bit of listening to you. You practically thought me alot from academics to how one should live a fulfiling life. When you punished me for doing something wrong you did it with love. There are alot of great things to say about your life which will be too much to be contained in a book. I miss and love you greatly and my dad also felt bad on hearing about your demise. His exact words were "why do good people die". May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace Mrs M.T.F Sojinrin.

God looked around his garden,
And he found an empty place.
He then looked down upon this earth,
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you,
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He always takes the best.
He saw that the road was getting rough,
And the hills are hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids,
And whispered "peace be thine".
It broke our hearts to lose you,
Stars may fade but the light lives on,
Rest on Mrs. Marie Theresa Folake Sojinrin.
You are always in our hearts.

R.I.P. Mrs. Sojinrin you will be greatly missed. Your were the only Headteacher that showed all your girls you really cared for each and everyone of them. You made us all know that it didn't matter where we came from that we are all special. You told us to embrace our truth and follow our heart. You never treated anyone different no matter if you were pushing one girl in debate or another girl in sports. You were kind but firm. You told me to never let my education fall just because I interested in sports and dance. Even after we graduated you always wanted to keep in touch to keep pushing us to be great. I wish I was able to come see you again after I graduated. You will not be forgotten because you will forever live in us Holy Child girls hearts.

It seems just like yesterday that you were admonishing us, pouring down words of wisdom on us. You repeatedly told us that education is the only thing we could give ourselves and stopped at nothing to bring out the best in us. You were more than a Headteacher to me, you were a mother and a friend. So many times you were the hand that pulled me up when I was weak. You taught me to always be above board. You believed in me. There are so many things that you would be remembered for, no words can express them all. Thank you again for everything. You will be greatly missed. Rest on in the bosom of the Lord.

Tribute to my favourite tutor, Mrs. MTF Sojirin
Growing up, I had the gift of words but discovering it and refining it into what it is today was all thanks to Mrs. Sojirin. She discovered this rare talent that I had and fanned it into flame, encouraging me to embrace what has today become a career path for me. She tutored me, gave me an opportunity that many may never have given to me or, many may have ignored. I mean, some frowned at the fact that I had to miss a class or 2 attending competitions or spending time in the library to research but she believed that I could cope just well- be outstanding in class and still bring back laurels and awards for my school through debates and writing competitions. When it seemed like some of my peers were making it tough for me, she called them out. When it looked like I was feeling alone or down, she gave me her shoulder. As a transfer student, I never felt like one because from the get go, Mrs. Sojirin was there for me.
Years after graduation, she still checked in to know how I was doing with life. She has left a mark in my life that can never be forgotten. Each time I tell my story, I always say, she was there for me. Even my younger brother said to me, " You are so lucky to have someone encourage you to write".
Princi as we loved to call you, your baby girl is doing just fine. She won her first award as Best Blogger ELOY awards. She's taking this writing seriously and ensuring that no one makes her feel less confident of herself. As I write this, i finally let those tears run cos I have been holding it back. Trying to be this strong girl you know me to be but you also taught me without knowing it, how okay it is to be soft. So, yes, I let the tears run cos I miss you. I miss that you never stayed alive to watch my career reach its peak and hear me give speeches where I would make reference to you. Even as you have gone, I know you will be watching and I promise that someday, when I tell my story to a multitude of people, I will make sure they honor you.
I love you so much that even words fail me. So uncertain of how coherent this words are but, I ask the Lord to grant eternal rest to your soul and let perpetual light shine on.
Your media girl and diplomat in the making, Ifeoma 'Oma' Ehiri. HCCOGA

OUR PRINCIPAL

There was an uproar! Everybody jostling and playing, shouting and talking, creating serious noise and every where scattered like it was a battle ground. Suddenly a voice shouted out loud- "Would you keep quiet girls!". There was great silence as only those words hung in the air. This wasn't the first time we were hearing those words but each time they always had an outstanding effect on us not because the words were special or of any importance but because they came from the lips of a virtuous, courageous and motherly woman whom we all adored and respected- OUR PRINCIPAL.

This woman of great charisma and many qualities never ceased to impact something new into our lives each day. Every day of school for the six years I spent here was always one to remember for me. As a student I looked forward to every general assembly which was headed by Our Principal not because I loved to stand under the sun for almost an hour or because I was an extremely righteous student but because I always wanted to hear principal speak. Her voice is like that of the nightingale, so wonderful to listen to and her words are like a sharp edged sword that always pierced my soul leaving an unforgettable mark in me. As a result of this, I always wanted and tried my best to be in school early so as not to miss the general assembly; that is apart from the heavy punishment awaiting any late comer as you would be locked outside. This of course gave me a huge sense of punctuality and timeliness.
She is a woman with good orature and constant quality advice as every assembly was either to advise us on good manners or to give us sound quality lecture on current affairs around us or in the world at large.

She has a huge sense of responsibility, that makes her drive, push and urge one forward in order to succeed. Everything she set her mind to achieve always came out a big success. This drive and urge she impacted into me and every other student. She firmly believed that she could transform Holy Child College from what it had become in the hands of the government to what it used to be when it was first established. Of course the transformation was marvellous and surprising too.

Her motherly nature (as she is a mother and a grandmother) aided her good relationship with the staff and students in the school. It was always easy for us to run to her when we had a problem and we were sure to get answers and support all the time so much so that she was sometimes accused of pampering us especially we the first set of the new generation of the college as we were always called.

Although she has aged over the years her intelligence and memory hasn't dimmed at all. In fact, I sometimes wondered if she had a hardware memory that helped her store information she learnt as far back as her secondary school days. You can imagine how long ago that is- but as she would say, “If you use your brain all the time, it won't fail you and you will be surprised at how retentive it is”.
She is also a very humble woman. Despite her age, she respects everyone’s beliefs and opinions and gives everyone equal opportunity to air their views- she has a wonderful listening and understanding character. She is always ready to admit when she is wrong and accept correction. This is a very rare quality, because even in our generation, it is difficult for one to admit that he or she is wrong let alone accept correction. She is also always ready to apologize when she has offended anyone and tries to avoid controversies of any kind.

As an ex-student of Holy Child College, tutored under the leadership and inspiration of this great woman- OUR PRINCIPAL- I can stand boldly and say that schooling was a wonderful experience for me and I would never forget all the great experiences both good and bad I had in this college as well as the wonderful life lessons I learnt from her.

Who is this Principal? She is none other than Mrs. M.T.F Sojinrin. I would forever cherish you ma and remember that you gave me the solid foundation and right footing to forge on in life.
As you leave, I sadly say Farewell, God's blessings and great success in all your endeavours in the years ahead. Many more prosperous years. We love you Ma!!!

I am still at loss

Staring to ceilings lost in memories. Deaths tributries strong armories. How come you aren't dead yourself death where is your sting? Where is thy victory? From passing memories, lagacies, and homilies. Yet you still took my Heroine. Standing tall in times of adversity teaching and always teaching. My Mother still teaching while sleeping. Taught the ignorant to wisdom. Spared not the word nor rod when needed. You keep living oh my Heroine.

Memories fading, Legacies lasting, impressions revisiting yet you remain still my Heroine. I will miss you my Mother strong for the Family strength of the women. Please remember me your son in heaven interceding always my Heroine.

A TRIBUTE - MY DEAR PRINCIPAL

Nneka wrote a tribute on behalf of her graduating set for Mrs Sojinrin's retirement celebration from Holy Child College 10 years ago in 2008.Today she has sent in another tribute still extolling the virtues of this amazing amazon whose memory will remain engraved on the minds of all of us who encountered her as her students, staff and Old Girls ( she was extremely supportive of our activities and encouraged our participation in the school repositioning). HCCOGA

NNEKA'S TRIBUTE: I remember the evening my dad returned with a newspaper advertisement of admission into Holy Child College. I had been at home for almost 2 months, while my mates were in school owing to a horrible experience where my result was sold at the only school I had applied to. It was now a matter of “well this was the only choice available”. I wasn’t particularly excited anymore.

I got admitted and on the first day of school my initial perception completely changed. Why you may ask – because of My Dear Principal. We were introduced to this dear elderly woman who made us feel special from the first day, “The First Set of the New Generation of Holy Child College” we were called. Schooling became a thrilling experience for me, as everyday was a learning curve.

My Dear Principal was an epitome of virtue and knowledge, A Woman of Substance and Great Zeal. I can boldly say that much of what I have and who I am today rests on the foundation she built in me and I would just mention 3 major areas which resonate very loudly in me today – Academic Excellence, Discipline & Strong Character.

Academically, she set the standard for us to survive in the real world. In particular, the rule was that we were not to be spoon fed by our teachers and so we developed the art of forming our own notes. A skill that became very handy through university and even up until now through my career. Discipline wise, she instilled in us the virtue of punctuality, cleanliness and good manners generally. Much of my personality as an individual was shaped during my schooling days. Just being around our Dear Principal and drinking from the wealth of knowledge she had, observing her personality and being a part of the system that she helped create, shaped my mindset, ideologies, thought pattern and general outlook to life. She helped create the strong woman in me, who is ready to aspire to greatness. She opened my eyes the gifts and abilities I had creating an awareness of who I was and who I could become; space would fail me to mention the many ways in which she pushed me personally to greatness. Indeed I am glad that at least I got the chance to tell her how much impact she had on my life generally even if the opportunities were rarely available and I am even more glad that she lived long enough to watch the children she nurtured grow into beautiful young women today.

Although she is gone now, I can boldly say that there is a piece of her in everyone of us that passed through her, maybe more particularly for the 2001-2007 set, the famous “first set of the new generation” whom she was always accused of pampering. Forgive us if we insist on being referred to as “her very own babies”. As long as we live and excel in our various endeavors, the legacy of our Dear Principal Lives On. Indeed Mrs MTF Sojirin is still with us, you only need to look within yourself to find her and even to many generations ahead, there would always be that part of her poured out to those coming behind.

To a Woman called blessed by many, I say Rest Easy. With Much Love!!!
