I am still at loss
I am lost in the bus
Staring to ceilings lost in memories. Deaths tributries strong armories. How come you aren't dead yourself death where is your sting? Where is thy victory? From passing memories, lagacies, and homilies. Yet you still took my Heroine. Standing tall in times of adversity teaching and always teaching. My Mother still teaching while sleeping. Taught the ignorant to wisdom. Spared not the word nor rod when needed. You keep living oh my Heroine.
Marie Therese Olufolake meant a saint came crying to the arms of Joseph and Angie. They loving and caring and you growing to be a Heroine. Death knocking yet still teaching even while sleeping my Heroine.
Memories fading, Legacies lasting, impressions revisiting yet you remain still my Heroine. I will miss you my Mother strong for the Family strength of the women. Please remember me your son in heaven interceding always my Heroine.
Our beloved M.T.F SOJINRIN...Can we ever forget you? You were our principal in Queen's College and indeed you were a blessing to many...As young as we were then, I remember I was 10years old but I remember everything like it was just yesterday.. On the assembly ground, you always talked to us with respect like we were adults...I can count the few times I saw you angry.. always smiling...You imbibed in us alot of things even though you didn't know..Princi like we always call you, you brought new rules, the school shoes, and alot of them...When you finally left us to holy child, it was a sad one and anytime I see a student of holy child, I always tell them they stole our princi...Lol.. in little time you changed holy child for the better, the uniform, shoes, berets, etc.. you always leave a good mark anywhere you go.. Qc1998-2004 set will miss you alot.. Rest on Princi..we love you.
Nneka wrote a tribute on behalf of her graduating set for Mrs Sojinrin's retirement celebration from Holy Child College 10 years ago in 2008.Today she has sent in another tribute still extolling the virtues of this amazing amazon whose memory will remain engraved on the minds of all of us who encountered her as her students, staff and Old Girls ( she was extremely supportive of our activities and encouraged our participation in the school repositioning). NNEKA'S TRIBUTE: I remember the evening my dad returned with a newspaper advertisement of admission into Holy Child College. I had been at home for almost 2 months, while my mates were in school owing to a horrible experience where my result was sold at the only school I had applied to. It was now a matter of “well this was the only choice available”. I wasn’t particularly excited anymore.
I got admitted and on the first day of school my initial perception completely changed. Why you may ask – because of My Dear Principal. We were introduced to this dear elderly woman who made us feel special from the first day, “The First Set of the New Generation of Holy Child College” we were called. Schooling became a thrilling experience for me, as everyday was a learning curve.
My Dear Principal was an epitome of virtue and knowledge, A Woman of Substance and Great Zeal. I can boldly say that much of what I have and who I am today rests on the foundation she built in me and I would just mention 3 major areas which resonate very loudly in me today – Academic Excellence, Discipline & Strong Character.
Academically, she set the standard for us to survive in the real world. In particular, the rule was that we were not to be spoon fed by our teachers and so we developed the art of forming our own notes. A skill that became very handy through university and even up until now through my career. Discipline wise, she instilled in us the virtue of punctuality, cleanliness and good manners generally. Much of my personality as an individual was shaped during my schooling days. Just being around our Dear Principal and drinking from the wealth of knowledge she had, observing her personality and being a part of the system that she helped create, shaped my mindset, ideologies, thought pattern and general outlook to life. She helped create the strong woman in me, who is ready to aspire to greatness. She opened my eyes the gifts and abilities I had creating an awareness of who I was and who I could become; space would fail me to mention the many ways in which she pushed me personally to greatness. Indeed I am glad that at least I got the chance to tell her how much impact she had on my life generally even if the opportunities were rarely available and I am even more glad that she lived long enough to watch the children she nurtured grow into beautiful young women today.
Although she is gone now, I can boldly say that there is a piece of her in everyone of us that passed through her, maybe more particularly for the 2001-2007 set, the famous “first set of the new generation” whom she was always accused of pampering. Forgive us if we insist on being referred to as “her very own babies”. As long as we live and excel in our various endeavors, the legacy of our Dear Principal Lives On. Indeed Mrs MTF Sojirin is still with us, you only need to look within yourself to find her and even to many generations ahead, there would always be that part of her poured out to those coming behind.
To a Woman called blessed by many, I say Rest Easy. With Much Love!!!
Nneka Isabella Ofili (2001-2007 Set)
