Memento mori, a Latin notion that reminds us that we all are mortal, and that we should live life to its fullest. Nick had a firm grasp on this idea, and that is something I will never forget about him. I am honored to have met and befriended such a kind hearted and exciting individual. He has touched the lives of so many of us here in Louisiana, and he will be missed dearly. Rest easy my friend, but continue to let the good times roll.

I only knew Nick for the year that I did ROTC at Tulane, but he was an incredible guy. He lit up any room that he was in. While he was tough, he was also laid back and loved to make others laugh. Truly a selfless person and the world is better for having had him in it. RIP Nick.

Unfortunately, I only got to experience who Nick Newsome was for a year while I lived with him at Tulane. In that year though, I learned more from Nick than I ever thought I could from a single person. He showed me how to be selfless. He showed me how to let go and have fun in order to take a break from school. He showed me that while school was important, if I studied too much I would be boring and miss out on the world. Every day was a blessing for him and he took advantage of it to do him. He didn’t care what others thought. He just wanted to have fun and make memories. He never tried to hide who he was. I cannot remember a single weekend where I sat alone by myself in our apartment thanks to him. He would always accommodate his plans so that a lowly underage student like me could join in on the fun. He was that guy who no matter what the situation was he would have your back. You could have been completely wrong and he would not ask any questions. He was loyal. He seemed to be indestructible. Nick we will miss you and we will try to live everyday like it is a gift as you had. I don’t know if I can come close to touching as many people’s hearts as you did, but it’s something I can aspire too. You were like an older brother to me. I love you and thank you for sharing yourself with me. Please watch over us and most importantly save a drink for me up in the clouds my friend.

I am incredibly sad to hear Nick Newsome has left us. Nick was one of the few people I knew that also made the Big bear to Tulane leap after high school. It was a privilege to train and work with him as a cadet in Orleans battalion, and he was always a brightly burning example of what a motivated person with a positive attitude can accomplish. Farewell to a great man and a great officer.

I had the privilege of Nick's attendance in my English class in high school some years back. Nick was memorable. He was a dynamo. Full of energy and a ready mischievous smile. A hard worker that I expected to become wealthy sooner than later. What is happening out there in the world? So much sadness. As I retire in June, it is the Nick Newsomes of my career that linger in my memory. Godspeed, Nick.

You've been a shining star since the moment you were born. Thank you for touching my life. I LOVE YOU soooo Much!

I met Nick during my sophomore year in ROTC. Before I really got to know him, he was the goofy guy who tortured the rest of the BN with flutter kicks. Once we hung outside of ROTC, he very quickly became a big brother figure of sorts to me. Even in the short period of time I did come to know him, it was a apparent that he so easily cared for others. He so easily accepted my wife and I as friends. He played a mean game of Munchkin and kicked everyone's butt as Super Smash Bros. To say he was a great guy is an understatement.

Rest easy, brother.

Nick: my friend, my mentor,my brother. I had the privilege of meeting Nick through ROTC and the pleasure of getting to know him through Kori. He was kind hearted, free spirited, and had hip flexores of steel. Everyone knows Nick was famous for his secessions of prolonged flutter kicks that he subjected his fellow cadets to. His best quality, however, was his ability to put a smile on your face. It was impossible to be unhappy in his presence. One of my most vivid memories is watching him prepare for dining out his senior year. It would be his first time wearing his officer ASUs, and you could see the pride and excitement in his eyes. He carefully placed both his air assault and airborne qulification badges on his uniform. His motivation and drive was contagious and that moment is the one I will always remember him in. That one moment of drive and unlimited potential. He has gone too soon from this world and now we his brothers and sisters must carry on that same unstoppable spirt and drive. Our achievements in his honor.

I've never met anyone who saw the world quite the same way that Nick did. He was bold, and he seized each day with a sense of reckless abandon so passionate that he inspired others to do the same. He was a fiercely loyal friend. And above all else, he was memorable. Everyone has a story about Nick, and his wild enthusiasm made it feel like you were teetering on the edge of something unforgettable. We are left in the wake of the impact he had on our lives, and that wake will endure.

I hope you find all the peace in the world, old friend.

I could sit here and talk about Nick for hours and anyone that was close to him could say the same thing. Nick was the type of guy that would go out of his way to help a good friend and not look for anything in return. He was the type of guy that no matter what the situation, he would have your back. I'll never forget the times we shared whether it was playing sports together, wrestling in his room, or getting into trouble doing things that at the time seemed like a good idea. He will be missed greatly by anyone who had the pleasure of getting to know him.

Love you man, forever and always.

I was 2LT Newsome's Professor of Military Science for his first three years at school. He was a very dedicated and determined young man; full of energy and life. He loved what he was achieving to do, and did just that. He will be missed! My prayers go out to all those who had the honor of knowing Nick, especially his family! Words escape me...he will always hold a special place among all of us...

My thoughts and prayers are with the family in this time of loss. So much life to live, but gone away from us far to soon. Love to all

Trying to put into writing everything that I feel right now is impossible. One thing that me and Nick always shared was stories. There were so many nights where we stayed up way too late telling old stories or sharing memories together. Many of you knew Nick from childhood. I only knew him from our relationship and our years spent together in college. There are hundreds of stories for us to share about his life and the joyous moments he brought us all. We all know Nick's favorite thing to do was to tell us stories that made us laugh. I made this page for us to share those kind of moments and to remember Nick for who he was: the fun-loving man who could bring a smile to anyone's face. We are all suffering from the loss of Nick. I can not write his biography alone. Please, if there is anything you want included in his biography, send me an email so I can add to this page. You can also add pictures, videos, and music. This page is permanent and will remain online for us forever. I can add anyone as an administrator as well so you can edit the page as you see fit. Please share your stories so they can be a resource for us to remember this precious life forever.
