My Quiet Hero

March 25, 2010
by Amy Hay

My Hero is the quiet type, No marching bands, no media hype,

But through my eyes it's plain to see, A hero, God has sent to me.

With gentle strength and quiet pride,All self concern is set aside,

To reach out to our fellow man, And be there with a helping hand.

Heroes are a rarity, A blessing to humanity.

With all they give and all they do, I'll bet the thing you never knew,

My quiet hero has always been you.

I miss you daddy everyday.  I think about you all the time.  Tomorrow is your birthday. I remember your last birthday we spent together, Brick was having eye surgery.  You were more concerned for him than you were for yourself, after everything you were going through.  To me, that proves what kind of man you are.  I think of you several times a day, sometimes I burst out crying, other times I laugh because I thought of something funny you did or said.   I would give anything to be able to be with you for one more day.  You live in my heart forever.  I love you and miss you daddy.

Laughed till it hurt

A funny memory I have of my father was during a holiday.  It was Thanksgiving and me and my dad was in the kitchen getting ready to take the turkey out of the oven.  I had just bought him one of the "Ove Gloves"  that you see on TV.  He wanted this thing so badly.  So I told him why dont we use the ove glove to get the things out of the oven.  So naturally, I put the glove on, go to reach in the oven and the glove did not work.  It heated up and was burning my hand.  As I was screaming that the glove was a piece of crap and throwing it to the floor, I look over next to me and my dad is laughing so hard he can barely breathe.  We were both in tears.  Me because I just burned my fingers, and him from thinking that this was the funniest thing he had ever seen.  We got to laughing so hard we couldnt talk.  Brick had to take the turkey out of the oven for us.  For hours after that he just giggled when he thought of that.  Its funny every time I see the commercial for one, I dont know whether to laugh or cry.  There are so many memories and plenty of funny stories I could tell you about my dad.  He was very entertaining.  When he got to laughing so hard it was almost a hissing sound.. I think of his laughter all the time...I hope you all can share a funny story or a great memory about my dad.  He is the greatest dad ever.
