His Life

Education and Career

February 28, 2019

One of the most striking characteristics about Daniel is that he was an intellectual. This was evident with the way he carried himself, his aptitude for exellence, his grades in schools and his ability to take on and solve big problems without fear. At the early age, you could tell that he was going places.

Daniel attended The Ola Oluwa Nursery & Primary School, Ebute Meta Lagos, from 1988 to 1993. Upon graduation, he enrolled at Igbobi College Yaba, Lagos, where he completed his secondary education with honors. On his first attempt, Daniel registered and aced his first West African Examination Certificate (WAEC)  in flying colors.

His high marks and outstanding results accorded him the opportunity to apply and secure admission to the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in 2000 where he completed his Bachelors (B.Sc) degree in Food Science and Technology in 2006.

After graduation, Daniel spent a year with the Command and Staff College Jaji, Kaduna where he served his fatherland, as part of the NYSC.

Daniel, then commenced his career as a banker with Zenith Bank PLC in 2008. After two years in the banking sector, he secured a challenging position with the Federal Inland Revenue Service in a bid to contribute more meaningfully to the development of his fatherland.

As if that wasn't enough, Daniel went back to school and completed his Masters degree (M.Sc) in Financial Economics from University of Abuja, FCT. He was also an associate member of Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

At the time of his death, Daniel was an Assistant Manager at the Internal Affair Department of FIRS.

He is married to Hotonu Rhoda Ibitoku and they are blessed with 2 Children - Daisy and Rayna Hotonu.

He will be greatly missed by his Family, Friends and Colleagues.

Special tribute from his "Committee of friends"

February 28, 2019

Daniel was our dear friend- we say this because we simply can’t get used to the fact that we have to address him in the past. It is not just painful as it is but we are all too stunned for words and his memory still too fresh on our minds. The truth they say is sometimes stranger than fiction. When we think of Daniel, what we remember the most about him is how much of a fun guy he was, how he loved to make everyone smile and laugh. He would bring his charm and kindness to everywhere he went. Meetings with his friends would never be complete without Daniel around. He was truly the soul of our collective friendship- the light of our party and now sadly that candle is out, and he has left us with a void.

To quote a general sentiment among his friends “oh, Daniel,  what would we do without you now.” We all have so many memories to share- it could never fit in a simple burial program. Daniel is the real reason why we have this group of friends. He orchestrated and introduced us to some of the friends we share in common today; some friendships that will last a lifetime in memory of our friend Daniel.  Daniel was loved by all his friends, colleagues and even general acquaintances most of whom are still in shock today. His kindness and generosity are known by all who have been in contact with him.

We keep asking the eternal question, oh, God, why do you take the good ones early?  But alas God knows best. We take solace in the fact that he is now resting in the eternal peace of God, away from this wicked world and to a place where true angels like him live. We commiserate with his loving wife and kids and pray that God who knows all and has power over all life console them and send His grace and love over them. We will not let his memory die. We will never legacy die. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep (1 Thessalonians 4:14)

On behalf of your friends and all those who still love you, we say adieu to you our dear friend, Daniel OluSegun Hotonu..

Live forever in God’s peace!
