Her Life

Pamela Jeanne “PJ” Hunter

April 19, 2018

January 28, 1945 – April 15, 2018

Pamela “PJ” Hunter, 73, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis, Oregon due to heart failure resulting from a battle with cancer.  She was born to Ernest F. and Ruth L. Spitzer Combs on January 28, 1945 in Long Beach, California.  PJ graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1962.  After high school, she studied art at Oregon State University, where she met her first husband, Warren E. Sisson, Jr.  They had two sons, Warren E. Sisson, III (“Trey”) and Matthew E. Sisson.  In 1978, PJ married Garland R. Hunter.

PJ was a gifted entrepreneur, artist, dog lover, and chocolate connoisseur. She was also an avid water-skier, golfer and bowler for many years, winning various tournaments throughout her lifetime. PJ had uncanny luck when it came to board games and often she could be found huddled around a table surrounded by laughing children—her sons and later her grandchildren—fixated on a game of take-no-prisoners Monopoly. Her beauty and grace belied her playful, fun-loving heart.

Creativity and ingenuity were her trademarks. Throughout her life, PJ applied her talents to create posters, banners, logos, buttons, signs, parade floats, Halloween costumes, Christmas ornaments, cards, and the occasional kitchen counter.

She was actively involved in the community in and around Corvallis, Oregon, where she raised her two sons with devotion and spunk. PJ was a champion of childhood education, our Armed Forces, Veterans, the entrepreneurial spirit and all causes in defense of freedom and liberty.

Most significantly, she was a caring daughter, loving sister, devoted wife, proud mother, young-beyond-her-years grandmother, and loyal friend.  She was dearly loved and will be profoundly missed by her family and friends. PJ is survived by her mother, Ruth Combs; sister, Joyce Abrams (Harry); brother, Ernie Combs, Jr. (Patty); second husband of almost 40 years, Garland; two sons, Trey (Hiyan) and Matt (Ellen); seven grandchildren; and countless friends and extended family.

As a member of the Neptune Society, her ashes have been scattered at sea.

A memorial service will be held at The Tree House Grill at Trysting Tree Golf Club, 34028 NE Electric Road in Corvallis, Oregon at 3pm on Saturday, May 5, 2018.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Heartland Humane Society, heartlandhumane.org; Samaritan’s Purse, samaritanspurse.org; or the Benton County Republican Women of Oregon, bentonrw.blogspot.com.
