Ronald “Ron” Norman Walcker, 78, of Litchfield Park, AZ, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2020 after a very short illness. Ron was born July 7th 1942 in Everett, WA, to Norman and Vera Walcker. He attended school in Sultan, WA, after the family moved to the town of Startup. Ron graduated from Sultan High school in 1960 and married Carol Anne Bowden later that year. In 1963, Ron was hired by the Washington State Patrol and began his career in Hoquiam, as a dispatcher. Two years later, Ron was promoted to trooper and graduated from the 35th WSP training academy and was promoted to trooper assigned to the Tri-Cities area. Ron later promoted to Sergeant and was re-assigned to the Chehalis Detachment. He relocated his family to Olympia and went on to work for the Executive Protection Unit where he would provide security services for Governors Dixie Lee Ray, Booth Gardner and Mike Lowery. Ron was promoted to Lieutenant and Captain while overseeing the Governor’s Executive Protection Unit. Ron played an instrumental part in providing the security plan for the 1991 National Governors Conference in Seattle, which, by all accounts, was one of the most successful events ever hosted. Ron retired after 32 years of service to the citizens of Washington State. He went on to start up Accurate Striping, a pavement striping business, and as owner/operator he serviced the Thurston County area contracting striping projects including South Puget Sound Community College and St. Peter’s Hospital. Ron later sold the business and relocated to the greater Phoenix Arizona area in another attempt at retirement. Ron quickly found himself back in the security business working the Peoria Sports Complex, University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale Arena, Phoenix International Raceway and the Goodyear Ballpark where in 2014 he was inducted into the Goodyear Ballpark Hall of Fame for his excellence and inspiration. Ron loved the Seattle Mariners and thoroughly enjoyed working security for spring training. Ron was selected to travel for work to multiple stadiums nationwide providing security services for the NFL Super Bowl. Ron enjoyed providing security for professional athletes, team owners, coaches and families and was even chosen to guard the coveted Vince Lombardi trophy. Ron made lasting friendships wherever he traveled. In 2014, Ron married Shawna Birchard and together they own and operate one of the largest private investigative firms in Arizona. Ron lived life to the fullest and embraced the adventure of each day. He loved to explore the waters of the Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands aboard his cabin cruiser. He loved vacationing with family. Whether it was spending time at the Walcker Fish Compound in Alaska and fishing the Kenai River, traveling to Rocky Point Mexico and eating Rocky Point Shrimp or visiting with his Mother in the Pacific Northwest. He loved golfing with friends and sharing his knowledge of endless topics. He never passed up a garage sale or a good bargain.
Ron is survived by his Wife Shawna Birchard of Litchfield Park, AZ; His Mother Vera Walcker Zabel of Cashmere, WA; Brothers Mike (Joanne) Walcker and Billy Walcker also of Cashmere, WA; Sons Jeff (Pam) Walcker of Maytown, WA, Tim (Marnie) Walcker of Tucson, AZ and Daughter Kelly (Brian) Casperson of Olympia, WA; Eight Grandchildren; Stephanie Rhodes, Becca Reeves, Andrew Walcker, Megan Lefever, Krista Plamondon, Kyle Plamondon, Caralina Casperson and Kyle Casperson; Four Great Grandchildren; Hunter, Mackenzie, Aubrey and Bryiar; extended family and valuable friends who miss him dearly.
