Sarah's Eulogy

May 8, 2016

This is the eulogy that I wrote for Saz's send off, and read out at the crematorium. Oz asked me to leave it here for those that were unable to attend to read.

" Firstly, Oz has asked me to convey his thanks to each and every one of you for joining us today, to celebrate the life of a truly amazing woman - Sarah, or to a lot of us here today, "our Saz".

Sarah was  many things to many people: Wife, Daughter, Sister, Aunt - But to the largest percentage of people here today, she was a friend - and what a friend she was.

Those close to sarah knew just how much her friends meant to her - They were a massive  part of her life, along with her passion for Manchester United and she often referred to her fellow Reds as her "United Family". I think that phrase sums up just how important we all were to her.

This past fortnight, I've spent a lot of time speaking to people who loved Sarah. Some of those people have known her all her life, others, like myself, for only a few years. Regardless of this, the same things were said over and over again -  Loyal, dependable, bonkers... hilariously funny, gentle, caring, the selfie queen...
These were just a few words and phrases that people used to describe her. She was also a royal pain in the backside sometimes! But we wouldn't have had her any other way. She was a ray of sunshine, and now she is our shining star.

Finally, I'd like to speak directly to Sarah's husband and soulmate, Oz...

She worshipped you, mate, she really did - and now I understand why. Throughout this past fortnight, you've been an absolute inspiration to us all. Despite everything that's happened, you've managed to maintain a dignified sense of humour. You've been there to support those of us that have had a wobble, despite going through hell yourself. Honestly mate, I take my hat off to you - You really HAVE done Saz proud.
We all love you to bits, and we're always going to be here for you mate - you're stuck with us all now!

I'd like to end this tribute to our beautiful Sarah, with a poem. It brings me a little comfort to know that she is still  with us, in our hearts and in our minds. There are several versions of this poem out there, but I think this one is the most fitting for Saz...

Death is really nothing at all.
It only creates a different kind of space between us.
I am I, and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
You can still speak to me in the same way in which we always spoke.

You know that I would want no solemnity or sorrow casting shadows upon us.
Laugh as we always laughed, at the little puns and jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me - and don't forget to sing, Reds!

Let my name be spoken without any effort;
Let there be no less joy, no less meaning than before.
Let us maintain a continuity; an unbroken conversation.

I am but waiting for you,
For a time, somewhere very near,
Just over the next horizon.
My love is FOREVER with you

ALL IS WELL."

The speech i never did .

May 8, 2016

I had this writen out to read at sarahs funeral but changed my mind . (not so brave now eh lol )

im not a great talker and i may crack up so bare with me and hopefully ill be ok .
I just feel i have to say a few words now as normally i couldnt get a word in edgeways,
never won an arguement so im having the last word for once .
I met sarah about 13 years ago , i wasnt looking for a girlfriend / wife and it was her that
actually asked me out . The first thing that struck me about sarah was her smile and enthusiasm
for life. She allways found the best in people and i dont think ive ever met such a caring person
in my life .Even through her own problems she allways took time out to help others when she could .
And that in itself is a very special thing to do .
And then came her love for animals she came as a package with bonnie her cat , and then a dog , 2 dogs
3 dogs rabbits lizards spiders and snakes mrs dolitte a few people called her and she was proud of that
they were her furbabies .I was allways worried when it rained in case she wanted me to build an ark .
13 years later our love for each other was still the same as the first day .
Id change places with her now if i could but she would probley win that arguement and insist she went
first .
She loved her football and all the friends she made their and was very proud to be able to go the game
she loved the football family and a sence of belonging
To put it in a nutshell she was and still is a very special person who will remain in my heart
forever . Thank you Sarah till we meet again i love you .
