Sean Dennis O'Brien was born on December 8, 1969 and departed this life unexpectedly on September 24, 2020. He will be remembered for his unmatched intelligence, big heart and unwavering generosity.
Sean lived life full tilt. He poured all of himself into whatever he was doing at the time. Highly competitive and always striving for perfection Sean would spend as much time as it would take to perfect a skill or project. He would stay up all night to make sure a website he was creating was just right and would not stop until it was perfect.
Sean was born in Buffalo, NY but soon moved to North Carolina and resided on the campus of NCSU where he perfected the job as an R.A. with his parents during his toddler years. He then moved to Lumberton, NC for the remainder of his childhood where he became an accomplished high school athlete. He was a key member of Lumberton High School soccer and tennis teams. After getting perfect scores on numerous college entrance exams including the PSAT and SAT, it was clear that Sean's mind needed to be challenged more than Lumberton could provide. He then applied and was accepted to the NC School of Science and Math in Durham. After graduating from NCSSM in 1988 Sean went on to attend The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While there, he became a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity where his outgoing nature and jovial attitude thrived.
Sean held many jobs throughout his life going from lifeguard in Lumberton to working at Top of the Hill in Chapel Hill (when it was a convenience store). He was a bartender at Carolina Coffee Shop in Chapel Hill followed by All Conference manager in Hillsborough and many other titles including reggae band manager and promoter.
Later in his working life, Sean discovered information technology and in this found his true professional calling. He could not accept not knowing how something worked so he studied technology and gained multiple IT certifications and endless knowledge not measured by a certificate. He worked for many years in IT creating websites and later starting his own IT company while also working in network security.
One of Sean's many tech hobbies was creating beautiful drone videos. He achieved this by combining his passion for music and technology. Some of his amazing footage of one of his favorite places (Holden Beach) can be viewed on the attached You Tube link.
Sean was larger than life and had the ability to make friends and make people feel better wherever he roamed. He loved nature, dogs and was generous beyond measure. Please leave more stories, pictures, and videos on this site to be preserved (at any time or year of your choosing) indefinitely.
