I remember being invited over to your house about 8-9 years ago, and your mom and dad were so kind to me, and me feel like I had known them since childhood. Your mom had a warmth to her, that could only be described as a mother's love :)

It's not goodbye, it's see you later.

Our adventures

April 26
Our escapades in high school and college summers were bookended by your mom.

She would always bemusedly listen to what half-baked plans we had made with Map Quest printouts taped to the steering wheel of Janet (that rudely voiced Civic), tell us to be safe each time we went clubbing, let us take over the kitchen when you taught me how to cook so I didn’t starve sophomore year, all while listening to me fawn over her plumerias. When we’d come back home, she was always there, at the end of our adventure, to ask how it all went, knowing full well we were leaving parts out.

I think one of the measures of a person is those they leave behind to miss them when they’re gone. Most among those, Susan leaves behind a husband who is one of the gentlest, strongest, most steadfast men I have ever met, and she leaves behind a daughter who is courageous, nurturing, and a light that makes everyone around her better by being near her. There can be no higher praise for a life lived and loved than drawing and making that kind of company.

Know that you both are loved and cared for as you grieve, and that you are not alone in this or in anything.

With love always,
Jack
