Thomas Berkshire, 88, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Monday Feb. 29, 2016, at Tidewell Hospice House, Port Charlotte.

He was born in Logansport, Ind., and moved to Florida in 1992.

Tom retired in 1983, as a railroad conductor. He was a member of UTU over 60 years. Tom was a member of the Port Charlotte Church of Christ. He was a Mason and Shriner for more than 60 years. Tom had many wonderful friends who he treasured dearly, especially his dog, Happy!

He is survived by his brother, Clyde Berkshire, Ohio; sons, Tom Berkshire, Nevada, and Tim (Pam) Berkshire, Indiana; grandchildren, Bryan Berkshire and Donald (Kaylee) Berkshire; and three great-grandchildren, all of Indiana; and four nieces and their families. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, George and Virgil Berkshire; sister-in-law, Joan Berkshire; sons, James and Donald; and daughter, Marna.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday March 7, 2016, at Port Charlotte Church of Christ, 20484 Midway Blvd., Port Charlotte. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice , 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238 or www.givetotidewell.org.
