First time we met Bailey we were moving in creekside apartments. He had grabbed some boxes out of our car and was walking them up to the door. He put the boxes down and said I'm Bailey Smith the apartments security and I'm here to help. Sometimes he said I was under arrest and would handcuff me. I believe he was around 9 then. He was always wanting to help with anything. My daughter Hannah is 2 years younger then Bailey and he would always encourage her in anything. Hannah had a little moped that he would drive her around on to help her get use to it; and when the battery would die, Bailey would help me bring it in and would plug it up to be charged. He also would do weekly maintenance on it to make sure it was save. There are so many stories just like this with Bailey helping. Like with the pool at the apartments he was always a big help to Nick, our maintenance guy at the time. We would lock up the pool and Bailey was the one who would go put the key in the correct place. He would tell me, I can't tell you were it goes because I'm responsible. I could go on and on of stories like that where Bailey wanted to always help anybody & everybody. When he moved to Blacksburg we missed him but he kept in touch. And May 7th last year Richie, Hannah and I were heading out the door and before we got to the car there was Bailey. He was telling Hannah she should join the ROTC and how great it is. We also talked about my son Zachary being out on he's first Navy deployment on the worlds largest warship. I went to give him a hug before we headed out and for some reason I decided to take a selfie with him. I'm really glad I did. My family & I love & really thought a lot of Bailey and was so excited to see how far he would go. He is a shining star and will forever be in our families hearts. We are still and will continue praying for Traci, David and all the families & friends of Bailey! We love you Bailey! Go rest high on that mountain Bailey Smith.✝️ Our Hero!!!!

I looked up to smith, though he was in ROTC, and I was in the band, he inspired me to a become a leader in the GHS band of gold. I will never forget our moments together throughout high school, especially freshman year. It’s hard saying goodbye to a friend who was close enough to be considered a brother, I love and will forever miss you.

He was a great leader and an even better friend. He was like an older brother to me despite the fact I was older. He and I worked together in ROTC and we did colorguard together for a long period of time. He pushed me to be as great as I could and I thank him for that. I remember doing colorguard with him, and he and I always accidentally hit Brewington with the flag, and we’d joke about it every colorguard. He will be missed he was an amazing friend.

He was the best baby and a remarkable young man who just loved everybody!! He was the kind of person that didn’t make enemies. If you met him you fell in love with him ❤️ there was nothing about him negative. I can’t believe you’re gone I’m so proud of you and all that accomplished and were destined to do great things. God must’ve needed those great things done in Heaven. Aunt Shell will see you again one sweet day and until then I will miss you every breath I take!! #forever16 #mybabyboy

He was the sweetest and most loving boy ever. I pray that God lets him visit one last time. Bailey was one of the most respectable and leadership-filled individual, while also bringing in the humor aspect of it all. He made ROTC so fun and I can’t believe he’s gone now.

This isn’t goodbye, Bailey. It’s see you later. #LLB ️

will made one of the biggest impacts in my life in the short time i got to know him. it was an honor to be one of his coworkers and an even bigger one to be considered a friend by him. he had the most innocent childlike love for everyone and would give the shirt off his back without a complaint. unfortunately our angel on earth was called back home. you’re definitely going to be missed, see you later will
