wonderful mentor and friend
I first met Winnie about a year ago as my french teacher at Penobscot School. She was a wonderful teacher and so patient with me in learning "the structure of the french language" that she loved. I felt an immediate bond with her and she with me. My mother had just passed and she became as she said " an older sister to me". During our purchase of a house and opening of our B&B she was very supportive and offered suggestions along the way with all of her experience as B&B owner with Howard of whom she spoke so lovingly and frequently .
( The picture I posted is of she and I at the opening of our B&B. She was so beautiful, happy and delightful that night. ). She gave me a guest book that now has comments in it and I will always treasure it.
I loved her stories of living in France. We did some private lessons of late during which I learned French and we shared friendship and warmth. I will never forget her. She had such an abilty to make a person feel so valued and special. A few days before she died she left me a very garbled message on my phone before we were leave for France for a holiday It was long and I wish I could have heard it all. I did understand only" I am glad you are having this trip and I love you." I will always remember those words. I love you too Winnie. I look forward to meeting her children at the memorial gathering . Anne McMath
