When we took this picture...

May 1, 2018

I remember that we had to be in this same pose to get the best picture possible.  Dad set the timer and camera on the tripod a few times.  The sun was in our eyes.  Tried hard not to look away but still did!

This new home was huge compared to our previous place in Hong Kong.  I loved running my toes through the shag carpet in the family room.  Couldn't believe this was to be our home from then on.

Life-long friends.

April 21, 2018

Even as a small child, I knew Dad had really good friends, special people he called "brothers". There are more of them than just those pictured here. These friends were so close to our father that they treated our Grandma as if she was their own mother and we called "uncles" and "aunts". These friends watched us grow up, move away, move back and witnessed Dad's life journey almost in its entirety.
Dad never lost touch with these friends over seven decades even though many of them moved elsewhere- Australia, New Zealand, U.S., Canada and other places.
To Dad's special friends, we say "thank you" for the special bond and the love you shared with our father. Your friendship with Dad impacted the rest of his family in ways you will never know. May God bless you all and give you comfort and solace at this time.

When Daddy met Sally...

April 21, 2018

Dad said that he first met Mom while working in an import/export company.  Mom was working as a typist at a different firm in the same building.  That was her first job ever fresh out of school, and she was nervous and a bit frazzled, lugging a heavy typewriter around.  I guess they started talking... and the rest was history.

Dad was not at his company for very long before moving on, and Sally too did not stay at her job there for long because she then enrolled in teacher's college and then became a primary school teacher.  So it was a very narrow window of time that Dad could have met Sally.

Dad said that Mom was a fresh-faced young woman, so pure, innocent, and so good.  That was what impressed him about her.

I am not 100% sure, but I think it was Mom who gave Dad the English name, Raymond.
