My Eulogy

May 30, 2020
My family and I are so thankful for those who could join us at my mom’s funeral mass. But we know many weren’t able to and I would like to share my eulogy with you.

Anyone who knew my mom, knew how beautiful a person she was.  She was like a magnet. People were naturally drawn to her.

My mom was kind and generous. She never hesitated to help others.  That’s probably why nursing was a natural career choice for her. She opened her home to many people.  She provided shelter for those who needed a place to stay, but they all really came because of the loving support my mom was willing to give to anyone.

My mom was hard working, passionate figure of strength who never waned in the support or love of her family, and who soldiered on even when times were tough.  When my dad became ill, she was by his side every step of the way.  None of us thought my dad would have survived as long as he did, but I believe he hung on because he didn’t want to leave my mom. She loved him and cared for him in   ways most people are not able or capable of doing.

My mom was brave.  She survived cervical cancer, three craniotomies and a stroke.  Despite her illnesses, my mom always had a zest for life. She traveled with her closest friends and visited Greece, Italy, Poland, Hong Kong, Mexico and many other countries.  Her fondest memory was people watching and eating pastries at a sidewalk cafe in France.

Like most Filipinos, she loved to sing and dance.  She loved attending the Sinulog Festival and learning dances Tita Lily would choreograph with Ministry Families of Christ.  After her stoke, she was not able to join in, but she wore the costume with pride.  When everyone stood up to dance with their Santo Nino de Cebu, she typically would forget her “boyfriend” which was her cane and get up and dance.

She was the “rock” of our family, the one everyone turned to and she genuinely loved everyone who crossed her path.  I’ll miss our time together, our drives and our talks.     She always worried about my sister and I and her “babies” Joleyann and Camille.  But I hope my mom and dad know that their bravery, strength and love will live on through their children and grandchildren.

To say they will be missed is an understatement.  I don’t want to say goodbye.  I want my mom here.  I want both my parents here.

I know it’s God’s will, but it’s just not fair.  She left this earth way too soon, both my parents did.

Mom, I know your with dad and I hope your at peace.  I hope you can see the many people here and around the world that will miss and love you.  And know that your memory will live on in your children, grandchildren, family and friends.

I was blessed to know and meet Adoring through her dear cousin Beth and the Alliance of the two hearts. Adoring always had such a great disposition, She was kind and her smile was the sweetest. Fly high and free Adoring. I know your beloved Jun is welcoming you with open arms and your smile is even sweeter and bigger. We will miss you but know that your suffering has ended. No more pain, no more tears. May the Lord keep you in the palm of His hands dear faithful friend. Daisy
