I met Alice in 1978 when I arrived at the Women's Resource Center as Director of Counseling where she was a Counselor on staff. We worked together there for 4 years and developed a deep bond that has spanned these 45 years. We were never out of touch, and following her death, I received her final letter, written a month before her death. It was a letter full of joy and thanksgiving. A final gift. I am forever blessed and grateful. I will miss her every day that I live, and I look forward to a grand reunion one day.
It was such an adventure to share life with Alice. She was such a profoundly human person -- struggling with her computer, trying to get through her stacks of papers. And she was so profoundly gifted with wisdom, grace, a keen intellect, the ability to listen, to care, to reach out. Alice was a gift from God to Planet Earth, and I wouldn't have missed her for the world.
Professionally, we continued to confer as we counselled taught and presented.
Together we searched for wisdom and answers to address the concerns and needs of others as they came to our attention. We prayed together often and shared our faith. We discussed the ups and downs of our personal journeys, the excitement of our individual accomplishments, the lives and deaths of those we loved. And, we shared laughter, curiosity, and a deep sense of reverence for all of life as it unfolded around us. It has been a rich friendship beyond anything I could have imagined.
Dear family members, your Alice was deeply loved and valued by so many. And she loved each of you so very much. May all those of us who follow continue to carry the light she shared with us into the lives and worlds around us.
Lovingly,
Dr. Eileen J. Reamy
