His Life
March 2
Andrew (Andy) Smith, 42, of Council
Bluffs, passed away February 17, 2024.
12/20/1981 – 02/17/2024
Andy was born to Leslie (Joe) Smith and Kathryn (Kat) Larson on December 20th, 1981.  He spent most of his childhood living on an acreage outside of Missouri Valley, where he attended kindergarten through 8th grade.  Andy then briefly lived in Neola and Minden where he and his sister went to Tri-Center.  He finished high school along with his close cousins at Abraham Lincoln High School while living in Crescent.  As a teenager, Andy most enjoyed skiing at Mt.  Crescent.  This followed him for many years until he had his skiing accident in 2004.

Andy joined the Air Force in February of 2002.  He spent most of his time at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.  He was an Airman First Class with the 355th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron.  Because of his leg injury in acquired while in the military he had some pretty funny stories of what he had to do.  Such on a recliner on the runway signaling planes.  He was honorably discharged September 17, 2004.
After leaving the Air Force, Andy came back to Iowa.  He worked at Best Buy where he learned he had a knack with working with computers.  So, he decided to go to college and get a degree.  He attended college at Metropolitan Community College. Then his career with computers took off.  He continued to take many courses online as well as taking courses around the country as per his employers’ request.  As a boy, Andy always loved to take things apart to see how they worked and then he would attempt to put them back together (this didn’t always workout in his favor).  He found himself fascinated with computers and how they worked.  His love of computers led to a career at Talent Plus where he was a Windows administrator.  He loved his job but wanted to be closer to home.  So, he then found work at Electronic Sound and began working there June of 2016 where he became a system integrator at Electronic Sound and he remained there until his last days.
Andy enjoyed being funny and he loved to make people laugh.  He had the perfect friends and cousins who enjoyed the same.  Andy, his cousins and his friends enjoyed playing video games on his very large TV with all the video consoles he owned, swimming in his pool and soaking in his hot tub.  His greatest joy came from his dog, Crocs; and his cat, Boots.  These he lovingly left to his best friend Ryan Pelzik.
Andy was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Ralph Smith; his maternal grandmother, Karen Thompson; his paternal uncle, Daniel Smith; and his nephew, Jackson Tanner Rabe.
Andy is survived by his mother, Kathryn (Kat) Larson of McClelland; father; Leslie (Joe) Smith of Red Oak; paternal grandmother, Frances Smith of Mondamin; maternal grandfather, D.A.  Thompson of Council Bluffs; sister and brother-in-law, Samantha and Trenton Rabe of Harlan; half-brother, Benjamin Smith of Red Oak; niece, Bailey Rabe of Harlan; nephew, Julian Rabe of Harlan; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
