Hi Drew,

It's me again... biker chick Sue.  I received your name on last year's 2 Million Bikers to DC run to honor the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on our country. (I'm the chick in the sunglasses.)

It's been a year since I "met" you, and I just wanted to stop by tonight on the eve of tomorrow's anniversary biker run to let you know that I haven't forgotten you.  I had to get a new leather biker vest, and the FIRST patch I carefully removed and sewed onto the new vest was you name.  As promised, you still ride with me every time I am on the bike, and you'll be with me tomorrow as we make a 2nd run to DC in your honor.

God bless you up there in Heaven, Drew.   And by the way, if you happen to run into Kurt Cobain, please say hi for me.  :-)

Love always,
Sue

On the 2 Million Bikers to DC run on 9/11/13, all of us who rode received a sticker with the name of a 9/11 victim to place on our helmets to honor that fallen brother or sister. My person was Andrew J. Bailey. I didn't want Andrew to be just a name to me, so when I got home from the run, I researched him.

I learned that Andrew, or Drew as he was nicknamed, was 29 years old when the senseless evil of 9/11 slaughtered him. Of all the loved ones Drew left behind, most notably was his little daughter Veronica.  Shortly before the first tower collapsed, he called home to say goodbye to his daughter.   This more than anything else in Drew's story broke my heart the most, as I have a precious daughter, too, who is about the same age as Veronica is now.

The sticker with Drew's name that I received on the 9/11/13 run and that I placed on my helmet was beginning to fade from exposure to the sun and weather. I did not want Drew ever to be forgotten or to be just another name on a long and mislaid list. So I decided to have a proper biker patch made with his name on it. Today, I asked my daughter Ingrid to sew this patch onto my leather biker vest in order to honor Drew, his life, his family, and his legacy more permanently.

Drew will now ride with me always; particularly on every Rolling Thunder run and on every 9/11 run.  Always...

Just a fun guy

July 28, 2012

He was a genuine friend and funny guy! We once took a road trip to Hershey Park with family and friends and stood in a Hilton Express. We stood up really late one night exchanging hilarious childhood stories. He told us that when he was 8 years old he thought it was hysterical to ring door bells of neighbors and run away screaming and doing cart wheels in their yards. He said his mother didn't find it quite amusing, especially when a neighbor told on him. LOL. The next day the power went out in the hotel and we got a free night. (He had good luck like that because once he took a cab home from my house and found $100 in the backseat.)

The silliest memory I have of him is when he was sitting on the couch in his living room playing Tomb Raider and his cat for no apparent reason pounced on his head, making him drop the video game controller and lose the game. Another funny story he told me about is when he was in the shower and left an outfit that was ironed on the bed and a friend that had slept over liked it and decided to wear it and leave with it. Andrew said he went walking up and down his neighborhood to find the guy to get his outfit back.

I also remembered he liked the video game Sonic the Hedgehog, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, he drank Heineken Beer, K-Swiss Sneakers were his favorite pair, Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder, Timberland Boots, obsessed with ironing, paint balling, played basketball and won a trophy for it and just being around people.
