I think of Anneke regularly. She was such a special, loving, dedicated friend. Our country of birth meant something special to us. RIP Anneke you deserve it.
My son Albert was with me for the past few days, and we remembered Ann together, along with all the Winkler-Prins family. Your family remains a beloved component of the Burdicks' fondest memories of our past on Ottawa Drive. Ann was a beloved figure for all of us, and remains a beacon in our hearts. Love to all you W-P's!
Memories, young and old, converge into a singular moment. The candle is lit, the tea is poured. Your example of love, loyalty and determination give me strength, they guide me still.
When we went by car to-day from Schilde (near Antwerp in Belgium) where we live, to our second place in The Hague Holland, (about 1 1/2 hours) we talked about Anneke, NOT because it was a special day to remember her, but she came back on the occasion of our Christmas card. We revived the visits to her house in Diepenveen and we talked with fondness about her. Remarkable ! Frank and Willemijn Hiemstra
For me the Diepenveen house will always be connected with my nephew Bernard Vroom and his wife Minke. In my youth I spent several holidays there with my parents and my sister. After the death of my parents my handicapped sister Pauline was still very welcome. When I married Marjorie she was also kindly welcomed and we stayed in close contact with eachother. Of course we were always kept informed about Minke's daughter Anneke. After the death of Bernard and Minke we continued visiting Diepenveen to meet Anneke and Vince. How nice of Anneke to give us the documents she found in the house that referred to the Vroom-family. We'll keep our many good memories forever as well as her husband and family will.
so sorry to hear of anneke's passing. whenever we met, mostly in diepenveen but also in michigan, the get togethers were a pleasure. rita and i send vincent, the children [in law] and the grandchildren our well meant condolences and wish you the strength to bear this loss. wennemar
Dear Family, Only today we learned of the passing of Anneke. We are shocked and sad. As expats we lived for some years across the lake from Anneke and Vincent. We have such lovely memories of them both and Anneke in a very special way. When we moved back to Europe we travelled from time to to time to Diepenveen and continued our friendship. Yes, we also remember her for the welcoming words when you entered her house in Orchard Lake or Diepenveen. 'How about some tea!' Her kindness, her warmth, her friendship will never be forgotten. We are sorry that we have to miss the memorial May 8th in Diepenveen as we will be in Japan during that time. Dear Vincent, children, grand children and great grand-children you have to go on in Anneke's way. Only the memories will remain. We wish you a lot of strenght and we express our deepest sympathy. With kind regards, Willemijn and Frank Hiemstra (now living partly in Belgium and The Netherlands)
My dearest Annaeka! As you raised your children your love reached out and touched the hands of their friends . Many many days I sought refuge in your home knowing there would always be conversation and tea. You had such an amazing talent of truly being engaged and present with the children! You inspired me to become the caring listening parent that you are!! I feel honored to have known you for so many years-you are one in a million!!
Anneke, you introduced me to Dutch culture and taught me all the Nederlands I know. Mostly food words, since you knew the path to a young man's heart was through his stomach. Varken, eend, boerenkaas, komijnekass, pannenkoek, oliebollen, spek, slag room, stroopwaffel, and of course my all time favorite - krentenbollen. You so enriched my family's life. We are forever grateful. We love you, Oma.
Our families go back to Pontiac General Hospital times when I (Carlos) was an intern/resident and Vincent was a staff physician. Our children grew up together. Anna had a wonderful smile. She bathed us with her happiness. She is remembered. We pray. We mourn with you. The Gayles Family - Carlos, Cynthia, Sonja, Carol, Stephanie, Richard.
Our Oma, the first time I met you you greeted me with love, hugs, and belly pokes since I was pregnant with your first great grand child Melody. From that day on you called me Family and we shared food off my plate, literally. It was lovely and every visit you made me feel so welcomed and cared for me like I was one of your own children. Well, I am forever one of your own child / family. I love you and will always have that warm smile and belly pokes with me, telling me what a wonderful mother I am, coming from a wonderful mother herself! My Oma! I love you and one day we will see each other again to share a meal off a plate of ours. Your Katie.
Anna, the day seemed just a little duller without your shining light. Where ever you are I know that it is just a little brighter there and we are missing you so much. Love from Carol, Robert, Caroline and Jean-Christophe.
Ann, you were the best neighbor in the world. Our children grew up together. You and I met for lunch at those "great" Pontiac restaurants, where we gossiped about life and politics, and poured out our hearts as fellow-mothers. And I shall never forget the time my son John and I visited you and your mother in Diepenveen! You enriched my life, dear Ann... Love, Dolores
