When Mark Twain wrote that “The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.” he was basically describing the nature of a fulfilled life; and without knowing it, he encapsulated in such few words the enriching life of Dr. Arnold Yongbang and the soothing nature of the way he left us. That is why the legacy he left behind is prodigious.
“What is a legacy?” some would ask.
Most of us consider a man’s enriching legacy as the things he created or did that enhance humanity; and so we cherish the children he seeded and raised, the inventions he brought forth to improve the wellbeing of man, the creative works of his mind that are helping humanity appreciate the finer purpose of our existence in this world, and the sweet memories he left behind to nourish the souls of those he crossed paths with in his pilgrimage on earth.
Dr. Arnold Yongbang did all of those things and even more. He rekindled the flame of life in the sick; he was selflessly at the forefront of a cause for a people to regain their dignity, and he stood as the voice of humanity against even those who claimed to be on his side in the collective effort to right the wrongs of history. Dr. Arnold Yongbang left behind the legacy of a gardener that would last multiple lifetimes, a legacy that would be nurtured by his wife, progenitors and those who share his ideas.
The tears of those who love you and those you inspired are meant to say that they will miss you. But they understand that it was your time to leave this world of mortals after giving so much to make it better.
Adios in your journey to the realm of our ancestors and the Almighty. Thank you for the time we shared with you. We have your legacy to enrich our lives. May your soul Rest in Peace with the Lord, the Creator of All. AMEN!
