Mr. Gentry was born in Heard County, Georgia on April 13, 1936, the son of the late John William Gentry and Bernice Jo Brown Gentry. He was a member of the last graduating class of Centralhatchee High School in 1954. He then attended Berry College, followed by his gallant service in the United States Army where he was in the Armored Tank Division from 1958-1960. He married the love of his life Patricia Ann McWater on October 12, 1958 and they were blessed with four wonderful children. He was retired from the E. F. Houghton Chemical Corporation where he was the maintenance supervisor. He filled many shoes in the town of Centralhatchee. He served as a trustee at Centralhatchee Elementary School for many years, was both a Town Councilman and Mayor, and was a rural mail carrier. He and his wife ran a general merchandise store “McWaters and Gentry” in the middle of town for eighteen years. His favorite of all his endeavors was being a Cattle Farmer. The joy he felt while being among his cattle was one of complete contentment. He was a wonderful husband and father. His great contributions to his family and the community will long be remembered.

He is survived by his beloved wife Patricia McWater Gentry of Franklin, Ga.; one daughter, Gayle Gentry also of Franklin, GA.; one son Johnny Gentry (Alexa) of Roopville, Ga.; one son-in-law, Tommy Stutts of Franklin, Ga.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
