All of the times with him and Bowie and big Ted, you can't begin to recall the stories. He was a great guy who treated everyone with respect and was interested in every conversation . Try to keep up with Blackie Larry and Ted with Tommy behind the bar.

I've always thought of the times I had with Blackie good ones, from being a little boy to my early 30's, my dad Warren (Bill) Schreiber was his good friend and bartender for many years at the show boat and chain link, I bussed tables for Jerry at Ol mexico and made special visits to Blackies on tanners, and champs too, he always made time for me when i would come in to chat, RIP Blackie you will always be remembered in the Schreiber family

Being Joyce's New Orleans cousin I didn't really know Blackie that well just because the miles separated us. But that changed after Katrina. Blackie and Joyce took my father and I in and treated us like royalty. He did more to help us during that difficult time than anyone else. I am forever grateful for the year I spent on Hwy 13 getting to know him and will cherish all the fantastic memories. He was definitely one of a kind.

I first met Al at the Dutch Bar, 1966, he was the bartender, lot's of fun. Then when I worked at the "Take Five" he came in a lot. And of course I saw him at the "Showboat". The world lost a Great Story Teller, RIP Al.

Please note this tribute was written by Rose Ortt. She also wrote a beautiful story which has been posted under stories.

"I know he is watching us all look at his life. He was so liked and loved by so many this helps us feel he is still here, WHICH I happen to believe he is! He is unseen, unheard which was never the case with OUR sweet Blackie but I do believe. I hope some one in family will put on pictures of when he was a baby and they would call him "chip-monk" because of his little fat cheeks, a great family video. Just want to thank you so much for putting on all the great pictures and to say this is a wonderful site FOREVERMISSED. I know it is helping many of us work thru this. I have passed it on to many. THANK YOU"

I am honored to call Blackie my cousin. After re-connecting with him in later life, he welcomed us with open arms when we came to visit. He made us laugh with his many jokes and kept us entertained with his interesting stories. He will never be forgotten.

I played piano with Deepwater at the the Showboat in St. Paul from 1972-1974. Blackie was a Great guy - and he Got the music. Those were some sunlit days - all the streets in Mpls still had their Elm Trees. Walks down by the Lake St. Bridge in the fall and spring. I am truly thankful for the Landrevilles contribution to my life. RIP Blackie. (Say hi to Brent for me)
