Grieving our Furry Friends: The Pets Who Come Into Our Lives For A Reason
Have you ever wondered why your furry companion found you at exactly the right time?
Happy September to you, my friend.
We are inching closer to officially welcoming the Fall Season and it feels like a mixed bag of emotions.
On the one hand, I’ve always loved the Fall and Winter, along with the changing weather and noticeable shift in seasons.
And on the other hand, personally, it marks bittersweet feelings of death anniversaries as well as a heavier energy collectively.
Something I noticed that has been a recurring pattern amongst close friends and folks everywhere, is that a lot of pets seem to be passing away around this time.
Our furry friends truly exhibit something special on a whole other level.
In many ways, they embody an all-loving and unconditionally compassionate energy as it relates to their owners, and vice versa.
In the past week or so, a close friend of mine mentioned the passing of her beloved dog.
And they had been around for many, many years.
I couldn’t help but feel warm fuzzies and tears well up as she shared about what it has been like.
It reminded me of my own beloved cat, Elliott, who recently had his death anniversary.
Then came more tears rushing in.
Even after all these years, and it’s been 9 years since he’s passed, I still feel heartbroken when I think about his passing, yet at the same time, I feel so much happiness thinking about all of the fond memories he left behind.
I miss him so much.
There really won’t ever be another Elliott.
Suffice it to say, the grief that can take hold of us, especially when our furry loved ones pass, is really like no other.
Our pets have something special about them.
They can attune to us quickly and deeply, attach to our every move, and absorb what we go through on the day-to-day.
They are as compassionate and unconditional in their love as it can get.
We truly only ever feel so much of that love and light when we are with them.
And there’s something special when they come to us at a certain chapter in our lives.
“Our Pets are Earning Their Karma and Experience To Be Human In Another Lifetime”
I remember reading an article from an astrologer that our pets, just like people, come in our lives for a reason and for a season in time.
They too have souls and in some way have chosen us as their owner for a certain period.
Our tending to these beloved pets are helping them evolve and move higher in the incarnation wheel for future lives.
Namely, they work towards coming back in another life as a human.
Have you ever felt like your pets just “know” what you feel, what you need, and how to help you? As if they are human, maybe even a better listener than most people?
I know I’ve had my moments with Ellie, more often than I can count.
And there is something inexplicable about their presence.
Especially when we go through a certain life transition in our life, it can sometimes feel as though our pets somehow know when we’re entering a new chapter, even when we haven’t fully named the transition ourselves.
They either have to leave or they continue to stay during the toughest experiences.
Because their purpose is rooted in this perfect timing.
The words that come to mind at this time are Nourish and Friendship.
There’s something beautiful about the way companionship becomes nourishment, and how that nourishment deepens into a friendship between two souls.
Our pets remind us of the reciprocity that takes place in the journey together.
We literally help feed them with food and water, while they nourish us in an emotional and relational way.
They bring that motherly-fatherly-reliable-and-steadfast-presence of “Let’s do this. I’ve got you.”
There is a level of understanding that takes place between us and our pets.
It feels like a kinship and extension of what support means for us when we shift and transition in our lives.
We can even say they are a highly competent support system for us.
Their level of competency comes from that unconditional positive regard and loving energy they continue to send out to us, and especially when we need it the most.
For this week, if a beloved pet has passed on, give yourself a few quiet moments to sit with the memories they left behind: the sound of their presence, the little things they used to do, and the love you still carry for them.
Or if you currently have a pet, taking in their presence with intention and awareness.
As always, take what resonates and leave out the rest.
May we honor our beloved pets that have nourished us and left an impact on our lives, while savoring one of the most beautiful friendships between two souls.
Warmly,
Putri
