NTEMNYAM USA MOURNS THE SON OF THE SOIL
By Nelson Ngoh
Tributes and tributes have been sent out in this forum since the passing away of Bobe Francis Yong, referred to in all circles as Pa Yong. A lot has been said about this giant of development in Cameroon. Those present in Atlanta at the Wake-Keeping in honor Pa Yong are still living the echoes of the various speeches made over the weekend of January 17-19, 2014. Rev. Father Henry Atem’s funeral message painted Pa Yong, rightly, as one whose humility is worth emulating. Bo Muloin (Fon of Kom’s Representative here in the USA) eloquently recounted Bobe Yong’s achievements for Kom and Cameroon to the amazement of many who knew very little of this man called Pa Yong. Nawain Lawrencia Nain ( Pa’s sister), barely getting strength to stand by the support of her loving husband, Bobe Emmanuel Yuh, stirred up the emotions of the hundreds of mourners as she narrated, in the most solemn voice, the minute-by-minute activities, changes and experiences during the last days of her brother’s life on earth.
The hall was dead silent to an extent that one could hear a pin drop on the carpet and only the strong (and I am not one) could withhold their tears. The participation of the Fon of Bambui was awesome as he and his entourage appreciated the contribution to Bambui by Bobe Frances Yong through the Comprehensive High School Bambui and the Agric School on the road to Kom that Bobe Frances left still in its budding stage. These are some of the highlights demonstrating how America as a whole “cried” Pa Yong.
After these and many more moving speeches, the sons of Anyajua, in tears bowed low so that their sister, Lawrencia Nain could easily put her head on their shoulders to let loose her bitter tears to flow smoothly for her beloved senior brother who meant a world to her. I could read from the faces of these young men of Anyajua a determination not to let Anyajua down. Pa Yong’s legacy must be continued they all echoed. Bobe Yong had done his own share of development for Anyajua – the High School in Elemeghong, the health center and the --- you name the rest. Oh death, where is your sting? Death did not give Pa Yong chance to complete many more projects including the improvement of the Belo-Anyajua road.
In an attempt to please Pa Yong and to continue with the development from where Pa left off, I am calling on all sons and daughters of Anyajua to revive all the existing branches of NTEMNYAM and new ones should be created at home and abroad. If the word NTEMNYAM stems from the fact that the Germans were defeated in Anyajua, what else can be above us? You may like to know that NTEMNYAM-USA (NUSA), in their meeting in Atlanta January 18th, 2014, the executive( Bernard Ful, Genesis Bangha, Jasper Nkwain, Etienne Ndongkeh, Gilbert Bangha and Malvern Ngoh) resolved that Pa Yong be given a befitting burial. In that light, a special shroud (agvum) has been dispatched by NUSA to the Home Branch President, Bobe Ndongkeh Samuel to carry out the burial rites deserved by the departing son of Anyajua. Please Bobe Ndongkeh and Bobe P.K. Timchia, give us feedback as to how Pa was buried.
May the soul of Pa Yong rest in peace and may his legacy be an impetus for NTEMNYAM to bond together in order to raise the flag of Anyajua to higher heights.
Bobe Nelson Ngoh
(President General of NTEMNYAM)

When somebody who went to Atlanta came back with a copy of the wake keep program of PA as we fondly called him, I then believed that the dream was real, because all this while, I thought it was just a dream and that I will wake up to the realization that it was just a dream. Going through this wake keep program I kept choking in my tears, because I still couldn't understand why he had to go so soon. Pa was a father to those who were fatherless and an inspiration to me. If Pa Yong had not given me the chance to write the GCE Ordnary levels without paying my school fees, not to talk of registration for the exam, I won't be where I am today. My mom had gone to him asking him to leave me In class until she was able to pay my fees, and pa did just that. Pa Yong thank you.Papa, go well. We loved you but God thought it wise to bring you home to his Kingdom. RIP, ADIEU.

The clouds of the North West Region are darken and extend beyond the confines of the Cameroonian territory because a giant light has been put out. A light that shone and lighted the path of uncounted people of all works of life from students, workers to top officials. The called him fondly Pa Yong. He was an astute leader,a probity of inspiration and an epitome of endurance. A man who saw the need for the society to join him in the pedestal in which he found himself and so built uncounted bridges for the people to crossover. He did it in all ramifications using education as a starting point. His works are an indelible mark that will impact generations to come. He fulfilled not only his dreams but those of the community in which he found himself so can now rest in the world beyond where laid greater treasures for people of such caliber. I'm privileged to benefit from the largess of one his irreplaceable institution National Polytechnic Bambui (NPB) so I can say I remain indebted with such memories forever because on that ground I found my missing rib. The Man, Mr. Yong Francis.

Mr. Yong Francis 68. A towering colossus according to Colbert Nkwain a journalist was a professional secretary following his training sanctioned by a diploma in secretariat Duties at the government combined professional school in Buea. Employed in July 1964 by the Government Printing and stationary Department Buea as a clerical assistant, Mr. Yong did not satisfy himself with the job as in 1965 he applied and was admitted in the government combined clerical school Buea in October 1965. On completion he was posted to Bamenda in the Northwest his region of origin to serve as a Clerical and confidential secretary to the Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam. Following his transfer to the then Bamenda central subdivision as a clerical staff and later liquor licensing officer, Mr. Yong Francis in seeing a bigger vision and the need to be a true family head in 1985 requested to be placed on reserve for two years. At the expiration of his two years in 1987 he voluntarily took his retirement. While in service in 1977 he started the secondary comprehensive and vocational college SCVC which will later become Comprehensive High School Bambui. As CHS Bambui showed signs of progress with an influx of students Mr. Yong before his retirement opened a school of stenography now known as Progressive Comprehensive High School PCHS Mankon in a bid to hand down his expertise to younger Cameroonians to permit them earn a decent life.
With over 22years of Government Civil Service experience and conscious of his background Mr. Yong gave his all for his two schools that will soon become the talk of the country.
In 1991 he decided to provide his fellow countrymen in Ayajua of Kom Country an opportunity to acquire formal education just like he had done in Bambui and Mankon reason why he created Kom Comprehensive High School Anyajua Kom (KCHS). To be sure that his objectives were attained Mr. Yong gave those who wanted to go to school but lacked physical cash an option of paying tuition in kind that is either in buckets or bags of corn and beans. Even though the growth of his baby school will be at snail pace, Mr. Yong will not stop his drive to bringing professional education closer to his people.
In 2002 he dared into higher education with the creation of National Polytechnic Bambui that his progress will later change its name to National Polytechnic Bamenda. With its professionally oriented programs, National Polytechnic Bamenda now has its roots almost everywhere in Cameroon and beyond as ex-students have become indispensable to companies and institutions in search for professionals. Following his contributions to education, he was in 1990 appointed to serve as Education Secretary for Secular Private Education in the Northwest Province.
While still in the civil service, Mr. Yong started a career in football as a referee. He worked at the level of a first Division referee for 18years. This love for football took a new dimension in 2004 when he decided to open the Yong Sports Academy training center Bamenda simultaneously with Yong Sport Academy Fc and later National Polytechnic Bamenda Fc. The success of the two teams in their respective division One and Two championships as well as the National Challenge Cup with YOSA Fc emerging as the 2013 champions can attest to his mastery of the arts of football management.
As far back as the 60s Mr. Yong Francis became a member of the Red Cross Movement. After attending several national and international training sessions with the Red Cross, he was in the late 70s appointed Provincial Coordinator of the Red Cross in charge of training and Administration in the Northwest.
Born on January 8, 1945 Mr. Yong Francis is a knight of the Cameroon Order of Merit, holder of the National Sports Medal and winner of the Paul Harris Fellow Award by Rotary club International, he is married and father of 10 children.
