ForeverMissed

"It hurts my heart to say that my aunt Breezy Green passed away on Friday, May 5th. She was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Monday while walking her dog on West Cliff in Santa Cruz, and her injuries proved insurmountable. Breezy was without a doubt the most devil-may-care, fun-loving, independent, brave and genuine spirit I will ever know. She lived life to her own beat in the most inspiring way, and she will always be my hero for it. It’s certainly no coincidence that the life of this margarita-lovin' lady will forever be celebrated on Cinco de Mayo with a strong cocktail surrounded by family and friends."

Life is definitely lacking since I lost you. There is a big hunk of friendship, excitement and in general having you to look forward to and adventures with my forever friend. I never knew what was coming next having you for a friend but we always managed to keep that ageless zest for life. I am seriously missing a part of my being. Love you breezy

The world has lived a most difficult year. Breezy's generosity has made it possible for CAN to stand with our partners in California, Nicaragua and Mexico, as they have recuperated native seeds and re-planted gardens after hurricanes, circulated COVID protocols and traditional medicines for strengthening our immune systems, and created virtual meetings to work through challenges together. Breezy, we remember you today and the world you knew was possible. Thank you.

On this 5th of May, I remember back to the 5th of May when Breezy was a student in our Natural History Field Quarter, and we shared nature together. Her curiosity, love of nature, and kind spirit struck me at the time, and I keep remembering it as each year since her departure passes.  Blessings. Steve

I am reminded once again of Breezy's love of nature, our time on the mountainside in Natural History Field Quarter sharing every wildflower, and of the love shown to her by the people in the small town in Costa Rica that her generosity helped many years ago. Pura vida!

Happy Birthday Breezy from all of us at the Community Agroecology Network (CAN)! You breathed life into our organization at its start. Through an act of deep love and generosity, you have trusted in CAN to continue working towards a world where social and ecological justice become the basis of our food system. I did not know Breezy personally, but am grateful to Suzy, Windsor, and CAN's founders for sharing their memories of Breezy with me. Breezy, we will be guided by your spirit--your zest for life, your connection to the Earth and your belief that things could be done a different way. CAN is honored to carry on your legacy.

We were shocked when we recently learned about the loss of Breezy. We will always remember the sustainable agriculture class at UCSC when two poor coffee farmers from Costa Rica made a presentation on the struggles they faced getting a fair price for their coffee, and their hopes for help from CAN, a fledgling non-profit we had just formed. After the class, Breezy came to Steve and offered a financial gift to get the program going. This was a major step for the beginning of CAN. She visited the farmers’ community in Costa Rica with us, and was received with open arms and open hearts. She became a long-term supporter of CAN. Steve also remembers Breezy as a student in another one of his classes – Natural History Field Quarter – as we explored nature around California. Her excitement for the natural world was boundless. We miss her sweet smile and generous spirit. And know that she will live on through all of us.

How lucky I am to have had Breezy in my life! She added color, laughs, smiles and caring to a part of a chapter of my life. My heart is so sad for all who knew her and all that loved her.  She is and was a treasure. So many memories & road trips we had in Colorado, etc........they are great memories that I carry with me. One of the best was when we woke up in a field in Crested Butte with frozen hair and cows next to us. Now that is true camping with Breezy Green! Makes me laugh to just think about it! I always thought that I would see you again, Breeze...but I will!
You know I thought the world of her when I named ( my favorite) dog after her, Breezer.  My heart and prayers to all her friends & family.

Breezy. Bright flames burn quick. I have nothing but love for this bright flame, she always brought a smile and a sense of adventure. She was such a positive force of energy in our family and helped my sisters and I in so many ways while growing up. And even after our dad, Bob, passed away many years later. Please let me know if I can help with anything. Would love to attend a memorial if something is being planned. Warm hugs to everyone feeling her loss right now and always.

As sister-in-law to Windsor, I had heard of Breezy for many years, but it was not until last summer at Kelsey's wedding that I had the chance to meet her. Pete and I so enjoyed our time visiting with her; she was easy to talk to, fun, nice, a real person.....I'm sorry she is gone from this world.

I remember Breezy as unpretentious, free-spirited, and quiet but forthright. It's been something like twenty years since I've seen her in person, but I'll never forget how my mother and she would reminisce and make one another laugh as we drove up the coast. Thank you, Breezy, for your kindness to Mom. With deepest condolences to Breezy's friends and family, Noah

So Beezerly, I went to Ocean Beach yesterday, toasted you with some rose wine and I swear you were there with me, in the hazy sky, smiling your big-ass smile. I so wish we could have hung out at your house in the trees as we planned, one last time. You will always be in my heart. Peace out, dudette.

Dear Breezy,
As I sit here thinking about you, I am so incredibly saddened that you are no longer with us. You are truly a unique spirt whose wonderful personality absolutely lit up the room. Your love for your family and friends was evident from the second I met you. I personally will miss your magnetic personality, high energy, and your great big cheerful smile! The way you lived your life to the fullest is an inspiration to all of us, and something that I want to emulate in my own life. It was an absolute joy getting to know you and I can say unequivocally that during the short time we were family you had a positive impact on me.
I will forever miss you,
James

SAVE THIS DOG!!!!!

May 9, 2017

I remember after Jake died, Breezy was so sad... until Boozer came along.  When Boozer went to Dog Heaven, she was so miserable she couldn't stand it.  That was until she saw the ad in Craigslist to "SAVE THIS DOG!!!".  Who else but Breezy could see through the vicious barking of a Pit Bull mix to find the gentle soul of Jackson?  I always told her that her dogs "won the lottery" when she befriended them.  I am sure Jackson is one sad puppy...

I had a Dream about Breezy this morning...

May 8, 2017

Breezy and I had been VERY close friends for many, many years but parted ways in March of 2014.  It left an empty place in my heart, but I knew for certain that she would continue to spend her life as many people could only dreamed of... skiing all winter, following Jackson Browne around the country, up for good music where ever it was happening, hanging out with her BBF's: Boozer, then Action Jackson.  She was a kind and quirky Soul who did good things for other people.

She always told me that she didn't think she "would live to be old".  She said this many times as though she knew it as fact.  She made no apology for living life on her own terms.

Last night, I had the most vivid dream about Breezy.  THIS WAS BEFORE I FOUND OUT ABOUT ANY OF THIS TRAGIC NEWS JUST NOW.  (I have been traveling in Utah with my son and had not heard the horrible story.)

In the dream, Breezy, me, my son Chris and a few others were hanging around with our dogs who were playing when a truck pulled up and a man came out and threw a leash around Jackson's neck and stole him.  We sprung into action, picking up other people who wanted to help along the way-- hot in pursuit.  We spotted the truck which lead us to a property full of stolen dogs and we frantically went from cage to cage to find Jackson.  She was surprisingly calm, quiet and gentle but I was flipping out, screaming at them to "GIVE HIM BACK!!!".  I woke up in a cold sweat and couldn't shake the dream all day.

Then, an hour ago, I heard her name on the news.  I am certain she visited me this morning in my sleep to say farewell.

She is likely sitting at a music festival in the sky right now, listening to good music and throwing a stick for Boozer.

I am sorry we didn't make up before you flew away...
