I went to the UW with Brett way back in 1973. We used to talk at length about Life. We called them "Reality Sessions". He was a very patient, loving, honest and generous soul. He opened his home to me when I was a homeless merchant mariner fresh off my first ship. I am moving to Spain and was hoping to catch up with him to share some of his wisdom and experiences. Though our lives have not crossed paths over the years, I have always felt a closeness to him as a kindred spirit. That closeness remains and shall remain forever. Though he has passed a few years ago, my grief is fresh. He was a friend.

To Brett's family: We live next to the house where Brett lived before he was even married or even had children. We experienced him as a very gentle person & we were sorry when he moved out but even more sad when he came by to chat w/ us a few months before he died to tell us that he was dealing w/ terminal brain cancer. We have been praying for him ever since & did not hear about his death until I started checking the internet & found out he's been gone for 8 months. Our sincere sympathies to all of his family. Gemma & Jerome Thielges on S.E. 23rd St.
