Byron's pets
childhood home
I'm sure that anyone who ever worked with Byron knows of his passion for complexity and making things "work" so as to seem NOT complicated.
Perhaps it will be no surprise, but he also loved such challenges outside of work.
One of my early experiences with Byron was almost 20 years ago, before he even realized he had liver "issues." There was a collection of friends staying a long weekend on the North Shore of Lake Superior, and some of us were running in Grandma's Marathon. My mother and sister were staying with me in my cabin. It was the first time my mother had been to the North Shore since shortly after she had married (which had been a long time.)
Byron took it upon himself to drive my mother and sister to multiple viewing locations along the route of the marathon so they could see me running. It was AMAZING that he succeeded at doing it. Keep in mind that those were the old days--no GPS, no Google maps--no technology. Paper maps. Driving skills. And guessing where others were going, so that he could out-maneuver them.
Of course he was very proud of his accomplishment. Most importantly, it made my mother and sister VERY happy. And that's what Byron loved to do.
I'm planning to dig into old photos and scan some from this trip. Until I update, try seeing the experience through my eyes. I'm sure that you may have your own as well.
