Mr. Carey Tolen, 74, passed away on Thursday June 8, 2023 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, GA.Carey was born July 23, 1948 to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Tolden and Fannie Mae (olden) Roach. He was one of eight children. Carey and hisfamily were members of First Corinth Missionary Baptist Church locatedin Atlanta, GA.In 1966, Carey graduated from Archer High School in Atlanta. Aftergraduation he begin working for John Deere in Conyers, GA as a PartsSpecialist where he retired after 35 years. After retirement he workedpart time for Parthership for Community Action in Decatur as a deliverydriver.Carey met and married Marion Gilstrap in June 1973. To this union,there were three children. He was a dedicated husband, father, grand-father, and great-grandfather. He will be remembered for his kindness,sense of humor and outpouring acts of love.Carey was preceded in death by: two children, Kimwanna R. Mathis andCarey Santez. Tolen; three brothers, Walter Tolden, Willie Lewis Tolden,and Lewis E. Tolen; and four brothers-in-laws, Eugene Gilstrap Jr.,Lamar Gilstrap , Michael Gilstrap and Mr. Don V. Howard.Left on earth to cherish his memories are: his loving wife of 45 years,Mrs. Marion Tolen; son, Ontario (Faleshia) Tolen; daughter-in-law,Lakethia Tolen; four grandchildren raised as his own children, Dalonn White, Brittney White, Whittney White and Shakeria Alexander; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Carey is also survived by: one sister, Mrs. Opal L. Howard; two brothers,Mr. Larry E. Tolen and Mr. Tommy L. Roach, Jr. one step sister, Mrs.Gwendolyn Carter; six sisters-in-law, Mrs. Julia John) Edon, Ms. Sarah Ray, Ms. Mary Favors, Ms. Virginia Moore, Mrs. Patricia Julian) Carter,and Ms. Teri Gilstrap; one brother-in-law, Mr. Sammy (Avis) Gilstrap and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
