Her Life
January 19, 2017

Catherine Phillips Sewell was born in Meriwether County Georgia to Arthur and China Phillips on August 24, 1926. She attended Plainview School and Dudley High School in North Carolina after her mother passed when she was only 13 years old.

She was married to Herman Sewell for 64 wonderful years until his death in 2011. They were blessed with eight children who they raised in St. Mary United Methodist church where they were both active members. Catherine was a past president of the United Methodist Women and served as a Communion Steward until her health declined. She remained a faithful member even after moving to Atlanta. Her daughters Mavis and Jackie provided excellent care for her for many years until they needed assistance from her other daughters.

Catherine was a natural caregiver. She devoted her life to loving and caring for her husband and children. Everyone was always welcome at the Sewell home where she enjoyed preparing large Sunday dinners and was delighted when her brothers, sisters, nieces, and/or nephews came to visit.

Her husband Herman Sewell and daughters Phyllis Clements and Everlyn Sewell preceded her to her heavenly home. She leaves to cherish her memory 6 children:   Jacqueline Sewell, Raymond (Annie Laura) Sewell, Emily Sewell, Linda (Doug) Thornton, Wanda (Greg) Levette, and Mavis Sewell; 1 son-in-law Leroy Clements; 10 grandchildren: Keith (Lianne) Sewell, Valerie Sewell, Daryl (Willa Ann) Miller, Angela (Ricardo) Murphy, Demetrius (Angela) Sewell, Tony (Lin) Thornton, Craig (Leslie) Thornton, Cathy Sewell, Lena Levette, and Steven (Tamika) Levette; great grandchildren:  Breanna, Jay, Cameron, Jamaya, Darius, Jaylen, Ricky, Joshua, Nickolas, Anthony, Jonathan, Miles, Kami, Miah, Grant and Ryan; host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
