BIOGRAPHY OF THE LATE MRS. CECILIA ALOMATU (CICI)
“What do we gain from all our work? I know the heavy burdens that God has laid on us. He has set the right time for everything. He has given us a desire to know the future, but never gives us the satisfaction of fully understanding what He does. So I realized that all we can do is to be happy and do the best we can while we are still alive” (Ecclesiastes 2: 22-26; 3:9-12)

“This is what I have found out, the best thing anyone can do is to eat and drink and enjoy what he has worked for during the short life that God has given him; this is man’s fate. If God gives a man wealth and property and lets him enjoy them, he should be grateful and enjoy what he has worked for. It is a gift from God. Since God has allowed him to be happy, he will not worry too much about how short life is.” (Ecclesiastes 2: 22-26; 3:9-12; 5:18-20).

EARLY LIFE

The late Mrs. Cecilia Taylor Alomatu, affectionately called, Yaavi by her parents and Cici by family members and friends, was born on Thursday, 14th January, 1943 at Tsevie, in the Republic of Togo to the late Mr. Anthony Kwasi Taylor Logahof Togo and the late Madam Adwoa AnkusiKorkorAvemegahof AnyakoLashibi. She was the second child of 17 children.

EDUCATION

Cici had her primary and middle School education at St. CeciliaCatholic Girls’ School at Nkawkaw from 1950 to 1958 and after passing her Common Entrance Examination in Middle School form 3, she entered St. Mary’s Secondary School at Korle Gonno in 1958.  By dint of hard work, Ceci successfully completed her Secondary School Education in 1963.  She then gained admission into the Holy Child Training College in Takoradi.  Here again, Cecilia performed extremely well and passed out with a Post-Secondary Teacher’s Certificate in 1967.

Very ambitious as Cecilia was, she proceeded to better her qualification in the teaching field at the Specialist Training College Winneba and obtained her Certificate Specialty in English Language in the year 1970.

MARRIAGE

God’s favour rested very heavily upon Cecilia such that, in 1967 the same year that she completed the Holy Child Training College successfully with a Post-Secondary Teachers Certificate, she met the love of her life, Mr. William KorblaAlomatu, of blessed memory, who was a native of Anloga in the Volta Region and was by then an Administrative Officer at one of the Ministries in Accra. They got married and were blessed with four (4) children. Two (2) boys and two (2) girls: William KwawuAlomatu, Matilda AkuAlomatu, popularly called ‘‘Sister’’, Patrick SenyoAlomatu and Lydia MawukoAlomatu. All these children, by the grace of God, are presently occupying responsible positions within and outside Ghana.

PROFESSIONAL LIFE

After completing the Specialist Training College in Winneba and with the Certificate Specialty she obtained in English, Cecilia was posted to teach English and English Literature at the St. Mary’s Secondary School, her alma mater, for some years. She later taught at the Social Advance Institute, and LaboneSecondary School, all in Accra. She also became headmistress of the Ringway Primary School in Accra.  Prior to these postings, Cecilia taught at some basic schools in the following towns; Asamankese, Akim Oda and Koforidua all in the Eastern Region where the late husband was working as government representative - District and Regional Administrative Officer respectively.

Cecilia was hard-working, dedicated and passionate about her calling as a teacher.  These qualities, together with her higher qualifications took her through the ranks of Post-Secondary Teacher Certificate ‘A’ to Principal Superintendent in the Ghana Education Service. Cecilia took early retirement at the age of 55 to care for her husband who was encountering health challenges.  Cecilia cared and nurtured her husband back to his feet and they embarked on several holiday trips to Switzerland and France. When her husband sadly passed away in 2011, Cecilia herself developed some health challenges which were managed in the USA and in Ghana.  The family was, therefore, happy that Cecilia constantly receiving and responding well to good medical care and was always her jovial humorous self.

FAMILY LIFE

Aunty Cici would be remembered for her selfless and loving attitude. With these attributes, she was able to develop personal relationships with every member of her immediate and extended family, her late husband’s family, as well as her friends. Many of her family members climbed up to their present high life ladder because of the high interest Cecilia showed in their welfare. She became mother to many members of her family and the late husband’s family as well. There are no words that can adequately convey the sense of loss and void created to her family especially her children, siblings and every single person she touched in any way in life. To all gathered here today to honour and pay Cecilia their last respect, we state that her legacy of love, hard work, support and sympathy would continue to live with us all.

Here, the entire family would like to recognize and appreciate the tireless devotion of her children, Kwawu, Sister, Senyo and Mawuko to their dear mother, and for being there for her when she needed them most. Akpena mi!

CHURCH/CHRISTIAN LIFE

Cecilia was baptized and belonged to the Catholic Faith.   She was a staunch Catholic who enjoyed the Charismatic part of worship such that her Christian life had become an example for many.  Everyone who encountered Cecilia knew how close she was to her Maker.  Her faith in God was unwavering and her relationship with Him was always alive.  She walked and talked with God. Cecilia regularly engaged in intercessory prayers for many and faced every problem with confidence and in complete reliance on the miracle working power of God.

There is therefore no doubt in our minds that Cecilia is resting in the bosom of the Lord.

HER LAST MOMENTS AND DEPARTURE

On the 14th of January, 2021, her children and grandchildren joined to celebrate her 78th Birthday. The day was full of love, she enjoyed herself and had positive memories.

Everything seemed generally okay on the morning of the 5th of February, 2021. Indeed, she asked her helper if she wasn’t looking very gorgeous and beautiful and she attested to it. Cecilia was her usual jovial self on that fateful day. Little did we know that she had put herself together for a higher calling.

Cecilia obviously transitioned peacefully at home on the 5th February, 2021, without warning but looking calm, seated and resplendent as usual.

Cecilia Taylor Alomatu was survived by four (4) children and eight grandchildren.

Cici, Tasi, Mama, Grandma, Rest in perfect peace till we meet again

We all wish you safe journey in the bosom of your Maker for your eternal rest.

“A woman who walks in God's love.
Reflecting the beauty of the father above.
Who is not defeated by things most men find tough.
A woman who is not just a pretty face

But a woman of God's grace
A woman who lives knowing she's headed for heaven…….”

Psalm 73:26
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Rest peacefully Cecilia!!!
