I especially appreciate the Judge as a mentor of mine for community service with the Sertoma Center and the Knoxville Downtown Sertoma Club. Howard's life was filled with public service, community service, church service, service to his university, and, most importantly, a deep and undying love for all of his family.

With his mind sharp and clear to the end of his days, Judge continued to share meaningful life lessons with all of us who would take the time to open our ears and reflect upon the wisdom that he shared so freely and unselfishly. We are assured that Howard has been raised up in perfection to the heavenly kingdom. We join with those of us left behind to struggle with our earthly travails in mourning his loss and wishing for God's blessing on all of Howard's family and friends.

He was quite a wonderful friend to Doc and myself. Remember, he tutored me in Accounting years ago? He was the best Shriner friend for a long time, and I still have the walking cane he gave us when he was Potentate.

How well, I remember Howard and Bob assisting me when I ran for Imperial Office and the wonderful friendship we enjoyed while working together.

Howard was one of a kind. He lived a good and productive life and did an outstanding job on the Board of Trustees. Listening to him speak up at meetings - without notes - is always a pleasure. He could quote incidents word for word - a remarkable man.

Every once in a while, I drive by the old homes in Holston and think of all the great times we had growing up—all those crazy family times we had at Holston Chilhowee Park. May you cherish all your wonderful memories.

From the entire Maples family to the entire Bozeman family - may God comfort you on the passing of Howard. From top to bottom, the Bozeman family was best friends to our family, especially when all the kids were growing up. We have such great memories.

Our parents, Carl and Mary Louise considered Howard and Barbara to be the best friends they ever had. We are sure that they will all be reunited in Heaven.

My Mother (Pat Galyon) lost her Dad, my dear Grandfather, on 6/28/11. Mom wanted me to tell you that her heart goes out to you and your family. My "Poppy" loved to make everyone SMILE with his "tall tales," and I am sure that he and the Honorable Judge are getting to know each other and will be good friends. Please remember that they are ALWAYS with us in memory and our hearts forever.

I was so sorry to hear about the Judge. He was always such a congenial and caring man, a rock and bulwark to me while growing up at the First Baptist Church. I enjoyed visiting with him whenever our paths crossed over the years. I attended Lauren Christenberry's Wedding Saturday at First Baptist, and as I sat there, I reveled in the splendor of the sanctuary and remembered all of the great men who graced its halls and were so instrumental in the church and my life.

I will never forget the Judge, and I thank the Good Lord for bringing him into my life.
