Hey Dad,
I could use some advice right about now. It has to do with how to balance everyone’s needs for future financial stability for all of us. I know you would have some important things to say here. I bet if I focus enough what you would say will come to me. I’d just really love to hear it from the horse’s mouth, as you would say!
Love, Dee

Missing you today and every day, Dad. So much I want to discuss with you. My world is not the same without you in it.

Miss you, Dad, every day. You were an amazing person and the best father you could be. Someday I might feel happy on your birthdays. Today I just wish we could rewind. Love eternally from me. ~k

Dad has been gone from our lives only in the physical sense for a year now. Not a day goes by that I don't ponder what Dad would say, think or feel about what is going on. I called him anytime day or night and he was always ready and willing to give me his take or advice on whatever. He also called me often just to check in. If he couldn't reach me in what he believed was a reasonable time he sent someone to check. Dad waited till we were all home before he could sleep when we were young and dating. If I took too long saying bye to a date, Dad would come outside to check what was up. He was very loving and protective every day of my life. His paternal instincts were everything a daughter could need. I miss you, Dad, like a year ago was yesterday. Sending my love to Betsy and all my siblings who are feeling Dad's absence or wishing he could help make sense of the World News for them, discuss parenting, sports, politics, philosophy, health, what's up with his grandkids, goals or each of our interests and his. Love, love, love to my great family Dad was always there for. And to his friends who also miss him in their daily lives. Hugs.

I love the visuals. I do wish we also recorded audio for memories. When I look at the pictures, I can imagine Dad saying "heh" or "hrumpf" or some of the other one syllable intonations he would make so often that could signal approval, disapproval, assent, dissent, questioning, etc. Wish I had recorded them and could listen with the pictures.

While looking over pictures of my Grandfather, I realized what a lucky girl I am. I have tons of pictures with Granddad doing amazing things. He always made family a priority and spending family vacations with him is one of the best memories I have. I am so grateful to him for that. I love you Granddad.

Dad's many interests cannot all be mentioned or we'd have too great a volume. I just want to mention his love for poetry and his great pleasure in reading his favorite poems to all of us when we gathered around on a "poetry night" during our family vacations at one quietly natural setting or another. He was very proud that his youngest daughter, Alison, became a well published poet in several literary journals of distinction. He discussed her new works with her weekly.

The same way he connected with her over the phone weekly for a shared interest, he would call me about thoroughbred racing to talk about our favorite contenders for the stakes races and their pedigrees. He was sharp at choosing winners even though we weren't gambling. Is anyone, who knew Dad, surprised that he'd select favorites to cheer for with names like "Alpha" or "Take Charge Indy"?
