Christmas time at the JACOBS

December 22, 2020
Being a teacher, my Dad never did have much money for Christmas, but wow did he throw a Christmas.  As kids, we were in awe of his Christmas. Mom and Dad must have started early in the year getting presents as they could. As children, we get excited as the day comes closer. We help Dad put up the lights outside, we help decorate the house and get a REAL tree "Most Years"  We would string popcorn and cranberries for the tree and that made the tree look awesome.  Mom had ornaments for many years she would put on there. She had stockings for each of us. As we all gathered from all over for Christmas together we would break out the old games we had for years and play them all together as kids.  Mom would get the house ready and Dad would watch his sports on TV.  I do not watch sports and the ANTI-Americanism will make me never watch them. We get together Christmas-Eve night and gather around a fire and the tree. We sing, read the Christmas story, and then praise God for something of the year.  Then each of us would get a present to open, pre-planned I am sure. We then would have another go-around of the games.  Then tiered out we would finally go to bed. I remember when we were little Dad would get on the roof or do something to make us hear a noise like a reindeer or a sled and bells.  It was funny.
The next morning the presents grew 10 times under the tree, and we would take turns opening them all. Mom always seemed to get the most!
Then we all pack our favorite ones in the car and we would drive to Grandmother's house! and do it all over again.
I miss you Dad!

Charles William Jacobs

"To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."

Jumping Jake Jacobs, was born July 5, 1932, in Lead, South Dakota, raised in Spearfish, before going to school in Rogue River, Oregon, where he was the State High Jump Champion. After working the ""green chain"" in Southern Oregon he played basketball at several colleges including Whitworth and Biola.

At Biola, he met and married his bride, Anna Lois Gibson. Charles entered the Air Force as a Chaplain's assistant. He was then Stationed in Dover Delaware where Jake and Anna had Charles Steven and then Karen. He then went to Fresno California where Timmy and Doug were born. He worked at the Post Office and took classes at Fresno State graduating with honors.

Jake began his career in education by teaching and coaching at Woodlake where his last child was born, Larry. He then moved to Santa Maria and after earning a Masters in Educational Administration from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, he became a principal in Farmersville, Ca.

He became known as the person that could get things done, and he was able to write and was awarded many grants to help with the school districts he managed. He was able to take a run-down school and revive it and the teachers to bring it to one of the best schools in the area. His wisdom and mentoring taught many people how to motivate and lead people. His leadership has never been matched in the eyes of his children.

After Achieving his goal of reviving Farmersville schools he picked the worse school in the area to take over and fix, plus became a Superintendent. As the Superintendent at Liberty School District in Visalia, he again changed the school from a low GPA to the highest in the area. He also created an early form of year-round school scheduling he labeled "The Quinary System." He was fought with continuously by the teacher's unions wanting more money and more days off and shorter workdays and fewer students. After achieving his goals for this school he moved onto the school that had the lowest GPA in the state.

He became the Superintendent of the Keys School District, which he transformed into a school colored pink with graffiti everywhere. He was shot at several times but still was able to bring much money and new buildings to the school. He painted and transformed the school tone of the highest GPA's in the state despite the problems in the city. The school was at the last stop-light on highway 99, which built a bypass to ignore the city. At that time Chuck or Jake as he liked to be called moved to the next troubled school district, Chowchilla.

Having undergone a recent kidnapping of a bus full of children Mr. Jacobs took the job to bring safety and peace of mind to the schools in the Chowchilla School District. He ended his career as Superintendent of Elementary Schools in Chowchilla, California, but got one more building paid for and the Chowchilla City now has a Community Center thanks to his hard work.

During his life, he started, organized, and was Commander of several successful AWANA Clubs at the churches he attended. He enjoyed teaching the Adult Sunday School classes and song leading. After retiring, Chuck, as a member of the Gideon's, spent a year preaching at Coffee Creek, in Northern California. He then attended church in Paradise at EV Free and Calvary Baptist where he helped as song leader, deacon, and school board member.

Charles was a loving husband and father and leaves behind a family who loved him dearly. He is survived by his wife, Anna; his father Winston Jacobs; brothers Wray and Jay; sons Steve, Tim, Doug, and daughter Karen, and foster son Bill Daniels. He also leaves many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. His leadership and drive to make things better is his legacy and his children have seen and learned from it.

He is missed!!!
