This website was created in loving memory of Cheryl Gilmour-Smith.
We will remember her forever.
Dear Friends,
Cheryl’s Celebration of Life, previously scheduled for August 25th, has been cancelled. The difficult decision to ‘cancel’ was driven by the continued threat the Covid ‘D’ variant posed to ALL who might have attended.
The same informal means of communication that were used to make the announcement were also used for this cancellation.
We sincerely regret any disappointment and inconvenience this cancellation may have caused.
In remembering Cheryl, as only you knew her, share the love you had for her with the world.
****************************************************************************************
There is no greater life long love than that of a father for his daughters ~ in this instance, Cheryl and Melanie. For a parent losing a child prematurely, it is ultimate devastation.
Cheryl’s sudden and unexpected departure from all of our lives, without the opportunity to even say ”good-bye”, has left us all in a state of shock, dis-belief, utter sense of loss and many other emotions, because it is difficult to comprehend, let alone understand.
Now is the time to reflect on all of the positive ways Cheryl touched us as a FRIEND,sister, aunt, great Aunt Cheez, partner and daughter; I capitalized FRIEND only to emphasize the extent of her entire family. Blood relatives account for a minority of those she considered ‘family’. She was truly enriched by all those she loved and was overwhelming loved in return.
It is difficult to comprehend just how many lives in one lifetime have been touched by her love . . . loyalty . . . reliability . . . thoughtfulness . . . consideration. . . compassion . . .outgoing personality . . . pleasant demeanor . . . trustworthiness . . . hospitality . . .artistic expression . . . generous gifts of time, energy and treasure . . . and many other attributes that made her so unique.
As her Dad, I not only loved her unequivocally, but I was proud of her as the human being that she was – strong, independent, self-reliant. creative, capable, industrious, self-motivating, all with a ‘take charge’ and commanding, though quiet, presence. Proficient in mind as with her hands, I have often quipped that my girls “ knew more about tools and how to use them than most of the boys they knew”. That knowledge and skill set served her well throughout her all-too-short life; however, her accomplishments shared with us all will long be remembered.
Cheryl‘s death has created a void in all of us that will not soon be occupied. However, if each of us in attempting to fill that void, would adopt, as our own, just one of those traits that made Cheryl so special, we will not only honor her and her life, but will make a small portion of this unsettled world a little bit more civilized.
All of us who loved her did so in such individual ways that we should take comfort in thinking that maybe we helped to enrich her life; I believe we all grow from the friendships we cultivate. Cheryl will be unequivocally missed, but loved and remembered until the end of our individual days. May you find solace in the fact that you shared experiences with this unique and loving woman.
