He entered Presentation College San Fernando in the year 2007. From early as form 1 his love for school cricket was seen, Christian was the lead wicket taker in the school’s annual windball competition. From then onwards one could have heard his name all the way on the form 6 block “boy, that youth man could rel pelt”.
During forms 2 & 3, Christian would always come to school and share his stories on how he went to cricket on the weekend and took out 6 men on the team. It was not until form 4 when he started playing in the Secondary School’s Under 16 & Under 19 league.
His batting stance was really unique.
In 2011, he debuted against Marbella Secondary at Harmony Hall Rec. Ground where he was put at number 11 to bat. The team needed 12 runs to reach the 400 mark, Christian went out there with his Ishan inferno and timed his first ball so sweetly that it sailed over the canfield for 6. He continued to massacre the bowling lineup. He ended up on 42 n.o (4 sixes & 3 fours). From that day onward he was kept on the team as a clinical finisher and a lethal opening bowler.
In that 2011 season, he went onto make big scores against: St Benedict’s College, Gasparillo Secondary, Asja Boys College San Fernando & La Romain High. In those 4 matches he took 12 wickets.
Pres ended up in the final against St. Benedict’s College where they suffered their 1st defeat in that season.
The 2012 cricket season marked a historical year for Pres as they went for a triple crown which saw them being promoted to the Championship League.
Going in to Lower 6 in 2013, he played a major role in the keeping the team in the Championship division. Christian made big scores across Trinidad & Tobago, he demolished bowling lineups, leaving the skippers of respective teams in misery. The team came up against Vishnu Boys and his words to his team mates were “guys, it does not matter if they have all the national players, we still going to beat them”. He never feared anyone. Chris took the team from 42-5 in 4 instances to over 175. He rallied on his team mates that they were going to stay in the Championship Division.
In the 2014 pre-season training, Christian was always present. He always pushed his team mates in the physical training. There was always a smile on his face, there was never a dull moment for him. Any member from the team could tell that he was looking forward to his last year of cricket in Pres. His words “well fellas, this seasons is ours, we working hard, playing as a unit. We are going to be prompted to Premier Division in 2014”.
Christian’s presence on the field and off the field will be missed. His spirit will forever live on with the team. At the end of it, he’s a fighter, a Pres Lion to his heart! R.I.P
