In my music room at home, I have many cool pictures of the shows that we (OK you) did. And I remember that I thought our company was heading for the big time as you started booking larger and larger tours.
Here is one of Craig's biggest secrets in getting his foot in the door:
He was visiting Vancouver and in my office and called some big lighting LD or tour producer and said, "Hello, how are you? Listen, as it happens, on (date) I am going to be in LA, just down the street from you visiting a client. I wanted to stop by and just say a quick hello. OK if I stop by?" The guy would agree, and Craig said, "Great, I will see you then." He then hung up and called Kirby, and said, "Kurby, can you book me a flight on (date) to LA. Then I said, " What the hell just happened, I didn't know you were in LA on (date)?" And he said, "I'm not..... but if the guy knew I was making a special trip just to meet with him, he feel obligated to at least hear my complete sales pitch." But if he thinks I am already there and just "popping in to say hello", it usually works." True story...
And although I smile at all of the above, it is always sad on this day.
