Curtis Dale was born on his grandparents' farm north of Bloomfield, Nebraska on April 15, 1946. His parents were Dale Alexander and Marjorie (Kruse) Alexander and he grew up on their farm north of Bloomfield. Curt spent his elementary years in rural school and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1964.
Working on interstate road construction in western Nebraska, he met his future spouse, Irene May Keiper. They were married in Sidney, Nebraska on Oct. 10, 1970, and returned to Curt's hometown of Bloomfield to live shortly after. The following year, Curt took a new job with the local telephone company and within a few months was transferred to a position in Elgin, Nebraska where he first joined a volunteer fire department. Curt again transferred within the same company to Creighton, Nebraska in 1974. Curt and Irene spent the next 13 years in Creighton working and playing hard and raising their children.
Curt served 12 years with the volunteer fire department in Creighton. During this time he also took classes and became an EMT. Elected to the city council, he served six years, part as council president. Curt was the charter president of the local Jaycee chapter. He spearheaded a project to restore a World War II plane displayed in the Creighton city park and was active in many other community activities.
Curt took a promotion to local manager for Great Plains Communications in Dodge, Nebraska in 1987. He once again served as a volunteer fireman and EMT. He initiated a storm watch team and spent many stormy nights on a hill watching for tornadoes to drop from the clouds. He became a district manager for Great Plains Communications in 1999, and remained in that position until his retirement at the end of 2007. He worked for the same company for 36 years.
After retirement, Curt and Irene continued to reside in Dodge but spent time traveling and enjoying winters at Casa Del Valle resort in the Rio Grande Valley of south Texas. Curt enjoyed golf, fishing, metal detecting and spending time with his grandchildren.
Curt survived colon cancer in 2000, and then Hepatitis C contracted through his cancer treatments. Thirteen years later, he was diagnosed with muliple myeloma and fought through treatments that included a stem cell transplant, but he could not survive.
Curt was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Irene, of Dodge, NE; one son, Douglas Alexander and wife Susan of Columbus, NE; one daughter, Trisha Woodson and husband Bill, of Chicago, IL; and four grandchildren; Zachary and Taylor Alexander and Billy and Natalie Woodson. Also surviving are his seven younger siblings, Judy Cooper; Rathdrum, ID; Vicky Johnson (Dennis), Crofton, NE; Gail Suhr, Bloomfield, NE; Richard Alexander, Norfolk, NE; Pat Miller (Bob) Rathdrum, ID; Lori Morgan, Norfolk, NE; and Lisa (Mostafa) Marshal, Norfolk, NE; many nieces and nephews.
