We had a very nice evening gathering for Dale tonight. As the sun was setting across the valley we dedicated a Paw Paw tree in Dale's memory. Please feel free to visit this small tree in the future. It is located at Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery along the eastern edge in the garden of "Legacy". RIP Dale

Friends of Dale Rose: On Wednesday, Sep. 5th at 7:00 PM, at Larkin Sunset Lawn cemetery 2350 E. 1300 S., please come to a wonderful tribute to Dale, planned by Rob Larkin and Diane, where they will plant a tree in Dale's memory, followed by a simple reception. Please, spread the word to all your friends who knew and respected Dale. Another loving event by loving friends.

I would like to organize a memorial tree planting for Dale. I have purchased a Paw Paw tree and think that it would be an appropriate choice to plant in remembrance of Dale. Dale's 66th birthday is tomorrow, Thursday, 14 June. I have been working in my garden nearly every day this spring, and am constantly reminded of his remarkable mind and expertise in the field of horticulture. Most of my garden has been inspired and made beautiful by Dale. While I only have one rose bush in the gardens, I call my garden my ROSE Garden. An incredible legacy.

Dale was a man of great faith. He experienced great conflict between who he was and his faith. I spent years trying to help him find peace with who he was and with his faith. Unfortunately, that inner conflict fueled his struggle, which ended his life far too soon. I remember the two of us chasing down rare trees & flowers throughout the Northeast. I want another road trip with Dale!

My life has been blessed by having Dale Rose as a dear friend. We've traveled throughout Utah; Southern Nevada; Portland, OR; and Seattle, WA. We've purchased rare plants, packaged them up and brought them back to Utah for Dale's "experimental gardens." He loved plants and trees. Dale, you are loved and missed. God bless you, dear brother.

Dale was a great friend. Rarely does one find someone so generous. He has forever impacted my life for good. I will always remember his contagious enthusiasm and humor. He impacted thousands of lives in a positive way. His love of plants was eclipsed only by his love for people. He will be missed! We loved Dale he was a very good friend full of knowledge and encouragement we had the oppertunity to tavel with Dale visiting the giant eucalyptus tree he planted on the right side of the i-15 in the St.George area , all over the beaver dam's,and the pine valley mountains to find some his favorites Ceanothus,Arctostaphyllos,Garrya&Quercos. The word that comes to my mind when talking about Dale Rose is PASSION! It seems like everything he talked about, whether it be green or something else, was very exciting to him. He inspired me in many ways, especially when he decided that he was going to acquire a certain plant, he didn't know how to get it to Utah but that never stopped him. Rest In Peace my friend.

Dale and I worked together at Western Gardens in the 1990's he had a great smile and humor about him as he shared his great knowledge of plants. The Edith Bough Mangolia, Monkey Puzzel Tree, Eucalyptus seem some of his favorites. One weekend he and I went down to St George stayed with his brother, saw the Howard Hughes oasis. We came back with a full car of plants. We planned Secascape!

I loved seeing the excitement and sparkle in Dale's eyes when we drove around town and he wanted me to turn this way or that so he could show me a favorite tree or plant or project he developed. I will also be grateful to Dale for helping me learn that not all "help" is actually helpful and can actually hinder growth and development. Thanks Dale for creating a kinder more beautiful world.

Don and I learned so much and had wonderful times with our good friend Dale through the years. Enjoyed time in southern Utah gardens and gardens here in the Salt Lake area. The last generous gift he gave us was an Edith Bough Magnolia tree and it bloomed one large flower just before Don left me. I hope they are together enjoying their gardens of eternity.

Dale was a Friend, an honest, generous man who introduced himself as a lover of people and mostly, trees. My garden is filled with his trees, and as he promised, they produce shade, and fresh oxygen 24/7. A handsome youth, more so as a mature man, with good taste, encyclopedic mind regarding all things horticulture, he spoke their Latin and common names with ease. Eucalyptus!

Dale spent some time in my native state of Oklahoma and well knew one of my favorites from childhood - the crepe myrtle. He seemed to connect me with this plant and almost always made mention of it when we saw each other. Thus I too connect Dale with this beautiful plant and never see or think of one without also thinking of Dale and his vast love and knowledge of all plants.

Dale, I will miss you this holiday season and everyone hereafter. We took road trips during the holidays and I personally looked forward to them. Like Ray, my front yard has a curb strip that is the envy of all my neighbors. I'm looking forward to seeing you in the next life. Your forever friend, Bob

A great friend, a champion for all things green and growing, a kind man. Gone too soon. May he forever be surrounded by trees.

We will always remember Dale. Not only did he possess an encyclopedic knowledge of trees and plants, but he was also a life saver. Late one night our dad was held up at gunpoint in the alley behind Dale's apartment. At a critical moment, Dale came outside, saw what was going on, and called 9-1-1. I always think of their friendship whenever visiting dad's arboretum. Vaya con arbols, Dale!

It is an honor to have met and traveled with Dale through the nurseries and forests he loved. Known throughout the industry, he received calls for help and information about rare trees, and could be assured a return call with the answers. His clients became his friends and his friends became his clients. The name of his consulting business: WINTERGREEN! Give him a call!
