Coach Dan was a great inspiration to me. I would always come to school thinking "here we go again another boring day at school" but I would always be so excited for his class and he would always brighten my day. Some people are thinking of him as a angel on earth, but I think of him as a great man just fulfilling his duties to make the world a better place, and he did just that

Coach wasn't just a great friend and teacher, he was a legend. He inspired many children at SSA+S and at Payne Park. He taught my brother how to skate and my brother has been trying hard to reach the same level that coach is. Everyone will miss him forever but will never forget his contributes to the environment. He is the best ever!

Finding out on Friday about what had happened, it just felt surreal. Today at school (2-11-13), I just started balling. I know that's not what you would want people to be sad about though. You were so lively, and full of enthusiasm. You inspired so many and touched the lives of children and adults. Knowing that what you have done for so many people, I would feel accomplished in life.<3<3<3

I only went to SSAS for 2 years but it was an amazing 2 years. I looked forward to p.e. because I got to skate. I love to skate now and its because of coach Dan <3 you will be greatly missed and I wish I was there to go the memorial. R.I.P Coach Dan

I am so sad about Coach Dan`s death. I think everyone was very affected by his death and it was all so sudden. I loved coach Dan he was my third period teacher this quarter and i was always looking forward to coach dans class to cheer me up!! HEAVEN GAINED AN ANGEL!! Heaven is a better place with Coach Dan there!!!

Coach Dan! You did soo much for us sarasota and bradenton kids. You made us feel safe and important and helped us grow as individuals, as well as grow together. Besides being a teacher and coach and dad, you helped so many kids have a safe place to skate. You inspired all of us and made such an impact on our lives. You are always one of the coaches I would tell all of my teammates about because you are one of the most considerate, kind, funny, and just straight up awesome people I have been so lucky to know. Coach Dan, I was there the first year you started, and from the very first day you were always so positive and full of kindness. You treated each one of us as one of you're own. I am so saddened by this loss and my heart goes out to his family and friends. My daughter knew him from SSAS and always spoke so highly of him and remembers playing with his oldest son on the Field of Dreams when Dan brought him to take your child to school day rolling a soccer ball to him. RIP Coach Dan <3

Coach was the best, i had him for 3rd Quater and i met him when he was coaching the boys basketball team. He was awesome i could tell when i saw him. He was really fit. I cant stop crying. Its really gonna be different without him there. I remember saying her coach dan and his last words to me were," See you tomorrow Chapman" but that next day didnt come for him. Love you coach! Gone far too soon but know that Coach Dan left a legacy. My daughter just started with you in 6th grade and was thrilled that you taught her to skateboard. So much so that we bought a "brain bucket" and a skateboard. Your legacy lives on! You will not be forgotten. Coach was the best. I remember last year Coach Dan had to druve the volleyball team to a tourterment. It was soo much fun. But we kinda had to coach ourselves but that was okay. He had some pointers for us!!!!! I miss him soo much. School WILL NOT BE THE SAME WITHOUT COACH DAN.. Im gonna miss him coming into the gym in the morning and just being him. Im gonna miss seeing that BIG SMILE. ;(

you were always helping out others and doing so much to get us a skate class. and you finally did. you inspired me to start skating and got me to go for the tricks. you were truly dedicated to helping other.

My husband and I want to thank all of you for your most heartfelt tributes to our son Dan. Our hearts are broken and while it feels as if they will never heal, please know that your words are like medicine for our souls. It is amazing for us to hear how his kind heart touched so many, many, many lives. He is our frist born, our hero, a beat of our heart. Spread kindness for Coach Dan!

Dan was a truly unique young man that had the compassion of giants and passion of a saint. From a teacher of 31 years, it is rare and a phenomenon to see the maturity of a "STAR" rising for the next generation. Coach Dan was that "STAR", instead of flickering here, he is now flickering a watchful eyes on the many kids at SSAS! Yes a "star" . . . gone ALL TOO SOON!

I HAD COACH DAN 3rd QUARTER. I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO PICKING HIM FOR 7 and 8th GRADE. Coach Dan, I miss you! Your deffinatly one of the best teachers/coaches I ever had. I can remember every day you would ask how my softball games are doing and when we would play baseball, you would tell me to be the pitcher and embarrass the boys by literally pitching underhand and striking them out.
