Tragedy

April 7, 2014

On March 24, 2014, our world changed forever. Daniel, along with two other coworkers were killed in a two vehicle collision near Sedley, Sask. The fourth occupant of their vehicle survived. The road conditions were blowing with snow and severe ice build up. We spent many hours with the unanswered question of "where is Daniel, is he OK?" before we found out the devastating news. He was killed instantly. They were travelling home from Weyburn, their latest job site, when the accident occured. On our way to see him at the funeral home that night I kept thinking that this was some terrible joke and that when we arrived Daniel would be there to greet us and tell us so. That was not to be. He was laying on a stretcher wrapped with just his head showing. So pale and so cold. Abrasions marked his face but no other obvious sign of injury. Again, I thought this to be a bad dream and he would awaken and say 'what's up' but that didn't happen. We all took our turns seeing and touching him to confirm our worst fear. I kept thinking he is so cold and I can't leave him here all alone. But we had to.
