The house was built with mud & straw bricks and was later coated with about 3/4 " cement on the inside and outside walls. A 2nd house had to be built for the kids that kept arriving every 1 1/2 yr. to 2 years. TOTAL PRODUCTION: 10 KIDS (Hmmmm. WHAT'S A PERSON DO ? NO TV'S OR RADIOS).
The barn was named Twinlight Hall as Grandpa Fred would put two kerosene lamps on poles erected at each end of the roof as a beacon for travelers who came by horse and buggy for all-night dances in the loft.
2015 - DARWIN DONATING Grandpa Fred's carved coal pig to Western Museum of Mining & Industry north of Colorado Springs across from the Air Force Academy. Grandpa Fred carved it during winter months from a large coal lump he got when he worked in the coal mines near Walsenburg 1908 - 1912
1948 - Ben with Babe (A real workhorse) and her colt, Trigger. Trigger - named after Roy Roger's horse - was a good cattle horse and would remain on the ranch all his life. While Allen lived on the ranch, Trigger was his horse, however, all of the family rode him for working cattle.
