David was so kind to everyone be met. I interned at FMF and parked my bike in the Ms. Magazine stacks. I always looked forward to a kind smile from him, even I showed up to work sweaty and smelly after biking from Venice Beach to Beverly Hills!

He made me hopeful that men cared about women’s rights, so dedicated to sharing.

Remembering my brother Dave on the fourth anniversary of his passing.  He would have still been active in politics and sharing his opinion about injustices and scammers as he saw them. Rest In Peace Dave.

Roger,

I am sorry about your brother's death.  I continue to grieve for my Annie, five years dead and gone. There is not a day that goes by but that I don't have a bloody good cry.

As we know Dave was an avid bike rider, even trekking cross country to FL for the ERA. I thought you might want to know that I've donated in his memory a sum to the LA County Bicycle Coalition.

Cherish the memory

Warmest Regards

Missing my brother Dave today on his birthday. He would have really enjoyed the Jan. 6 committee findings and I’m sure he would have written some interesting comments!

Roger,

I am sorry for your (and our) loss.  The January 6th Committee hearings have shown a frightening picture of toxic masculinity.  Your brother represented another type of man, a gentle and sensitive man that the world needs more of.

I am sending a donation in Dave's name to the Feminist Majority Foundation.

Warmest Regards

Roger,

I have made a contribution in memory of Dave to the Natl Organization For Women for them to continue the fight for the ERA.

Dave and I were volunteers at LA NOW during the 1980s.

Oh, my dear friend, I miss you so much. Maybe you could have lightened up this insane world in which we're living. I could use your humor and insight right about now. Much love. You are a cherished memory.

Happy Birthday David,

I think of you often these days and wish you were still here. The suffragists are too often condemned by so-called academics and scholars and their legacy undermined from what it simply was - the struggle of some women to find their rightful place in society: as true partners.

In response, I am toying with an idea that in fact I recently discovered you had written about also and wondering how to bring their vision to light and inspire more to follow in their footsteps.

It would be a tribute to your work and dedication to give this timeless feminist story contemporary significance. Only now, you are among our Foremothers watching from above as others who heed the call carry on in your good stead.

It would be an honor.

Sincerely,
Cal Cook

This would have been Dave’s 75th birthday, I know he would still have been totally engaged in politics and doing his best to make this a better world. He is not forgotten. RIP big brother, you did a lot of good!

My Facebook posting from David’s birthday. I truly wish we still could repost the wonderful Suffrage story on David’s behalf.
Happy Birthday to David Dismore who would have been 74 years old today. David painstakingly researched and wrote a treasure trove of feminist history and posted daily updates to his FB page from the Suffrage campaign as if he were right there in the thick of it. So many people were heartbroken when he suddenly died on June 10, 2019 and would not live to help celebrate and be honored for his scholarship throughout 2020’s Suffrage Centennial. I had hoped to interview David on the Equal Rights Amendment’s history which he studied and was a part of the 1970’s campaign when he biked across country from LA to FL. Here’s a brief bio of him. Rest in Power, David. I’m sure RBG, Helen Reddy and you will have much to discuss on feminist history wherever all good souls rest.

Today would be my brother Dave’s 74th birthday. He would really be interested in all the politics happening at this time and I am sure writing about it prolifically!  We miss hit wit and wisdom!

For the last four years we have had a man in the White House who is a racist, misogynist vulgar predatory bully.

Dave Dinsmore was another kind of man. A sensitive man. The kind that the world needs more of.  We have had plenty of the other kind, thank you.

He fought tirelessly for the passage of the ERA, even though it proved to be a lost cause. Maybe, as Mr. Smith said, the lost causes are the only ones worth fighting for.

But in the end the ERA may not prove to be a lost cause, and may become in time a part of the constitution. Remember, many of the women who labored for the suffrage amendment did not see it become law.

NEVER ANOTHER SEASON OF SILENCE.

Roger,

I am sorry to hear that you are still grieving. I lost my wife, Anne, three years ago, and there is not a day that goes by but that I don't have a bloody good cry.  My sister in law tells me that in time things will get better.

If I may say, I think Dave would want you to go on and enjoy life.

Dave used to leave funny greetings on his answering machine.

Also, when I was having a nervous breakdown he was kind enough to lend an ear whenever I needed to talk.

In 1980 when gas prices hit $1.00 a gal. he put his Mustang in the garage and started riding his bike;.  He used to ride from Mid Wiilshire to West LA to work at Zero Population Growth.  And of course there was his cross country trek to support ERA.

If he were alive today I am sure that he would be out marching with the Black Lives Matter group or at least lending his support.

"Be ashamed to die until you have won some small victory for humanity."

HORACE MANN.

By his indefatigable efforts for ERA Dave did win a victory for humanity.

A life well lived.

Best Regards

Oh, God, how I miss Dave. I miss being able to call him up to talk endlessly about what's going on in the world. Especially when my wife says "don't you ever talk about anything besides politics?" Dave was always an encyclopedia of information and could always answer any question I might have. I'd ask and he'd be off with more information than I could even digest. Rest in Peace my friend. You are so missed.

Today is one year from my brother Dave’s passing.  I think about him often and wonder what he would be doing and thinking during this time of pandemic and human rights discussions. He was always giving everything he had to advance our culture and his writings were and still are informative and influential.  He made his mark on society!

I met Dave Dismore at LA NOW ERA Task Force in 1979. Dave was very active in the chapter and a committed feminist

The world was made a better place because of him.  Indeed the world sorely needs more men like Dave Dismore.
