This memorial website was created in memory of our loved one, David Xavier Durkin, 63, born on October 21, 1953 and died suddenly on April 27, 2017. He will be loved, remembered and held in our hearts and minds forever.
At the Clairemont Mortuary, on Thursday, May 25, and Friday, May 26, Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm with a Rosary at 6:30. At the Holy Family Church on Saturday, May 27, his funeral Mass will be at 11 am followed by his burial at the Holy Cross Cemetery.
Born, raised and lived in San Diego, Dave passed away suddenly on April 27, 2017. The youngest of 4 children, he attended St. Brigid’s Academy in Pacific Beach and University of San Diego High School in Linda Vista. He went to the University of California, Berkeley for two years. After meeting his future wife, he transferred to the University of California, San Diego, where he later graduated. He earned his Juris Doctor at the University of San Diego. Dave practiced law in San Diego for over 30 years.
Dave was a wonderful, loving husband and father who generously shared his time and many talents with his family, friends and community. His compassion, kindness and companionship will be deeply missed by many and his passing is grievously mourned by both loving family and friends. Dave was the original “life is good” guy. He was a humble man with a zest for life. He was often quick to smile, laugh and share a story. Dave had a wonderful ability to find common ground with everyone and parlayed the common ground into lifelong friendships.
Dave’s law practice was modest. He became an attorney, not as a means to become wealthy, but because it was a way for him to help his friends and contribute to his community. His lifelong friends and family were clients and his clients were lifelong friends.
Dave leaves his wife, Lori Guardiano-Durkin and their sons, Tomas, David and Mickey; his Durkin siblings, Patrick (Janet), Michael (Dori) and Joan (Ed); his Guardiano family Lola, Tere (Don), Raymond, Peter, George and Jayme (Dean); many nieces, nephews and cousins.

So many more memories over the years - my parents also got to know Dave and Lori through the grandparent connection with Lori's mom. I'll always remember how Dad and Dave liked to talk baseball. I am so sorry for the whole family's loss. Dave was truly one of a kind, a good man, a great friend. I know that the hole left by his passing will not ever really be filled - except by the precious memories of all the love, laughter and wonderful time that you had with him.
I spent many enjoyable hours coaching youth baseball with Dave at North City Youth Baseball with his son, Tomas, and my sons, Kevin and Andy. Dave was a happy and funny guy, a kind and gentle man, a good father, and a fine coach. We shared many good conversations and laughs together, not only about baseball and our kids, but about life, music and especially jazz. We kept in touch over the years and I was also fortunate to work on some legal matters with Dave after youth baseball. Dave was a good lawyer, but I'll always remember him as a gentle soul and a great family man.

Always a friend in the time of greatest need
David Durkin takes down SDG&E
A Model Law Student
I have been teaching law for 41 years and have had about 2,000 students who are now attorneys. I am proud of a large number. But Dave was special. He took the classes I taught back then and his impression was indelible, as has been his work since graduation.. He was greatly interested in consumer rights and in public interest law -- two of my areas of teaching. If I had to rank all of my former students, Dave Durkin would be at the top. The very top.
